Introducing Sunshine Coast Indie Rock Artist Jett Amos

Jett Amos is an indie rock musician from Sunshine Coast.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An emerging indie rock musician from the Sunshine Coast, Jett Amos' brand of grooves feature soaring guitars, chilled vibes, spacious loops and warm melodies.

You can hear his musical inspirations clearly (Ocean Alley, Sticky Fingers, Tame Impala), but Jett also has his own style that roams from alternative slow jams and funky psych-outs to good ol' fashioned rock & roll.

After releasing his debut album 'Azalea' last year, his newest single is 'The Last Light' that he describes as "an indie rock-ode to the flame that flickers between lovers. Exploring those moments in a relationship where you have to hold on or let go."

Who is Jett Amos... 20-year-old Sunshine Coast hooligan. So very passionate about music and believes without it, life just wouldn't make sense. I've been playing guitar since I was 12 and have developed other skills on other instruments since then. I play guitar, drums, bass, and piano, and record all my tracks in my home bedroom studio.

I sound like... Ocean Alley, Sticky Fingers, Tame Impala as they are my biggest inspirations, but I like to think I have my own style at the same time.

My first gig was... Where the night life shines on the Sunshine Coast. A cheeky little bar on Ocean Street called The Sneaky Baron.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision? I've always thought that I had to change my name to something cool for musical purposes, but I decided to be original and to be proud of who I am and where I came from so I decided to use my full real name: Jett Amos.

In the studio I usually... Dig in and don't leave until the track is done. Not for food or water, not even to pee.

If I could tour with anyone... It would be 100 per cent be Ocean Alley. They look like the loosest set of blokes out there and it's definitely my cup of tea.

Social media is... A tool and also a distraction; wouldn't mind a break from the damn thing every once and while, and just be able to connect with nature and the real world.

My favourite app at the moment is... The triple j app. Currently ranked second in music and is the perfect way to stream new music you might not have heard of on Australia's leading radio station.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was... The time I rocked up to a soccer game with my little brother. We both really needed to pee, so my old man told us to quickly take a wiz on the fence. My little brother is a gun with his stream and peed all over me, and I had to play the soccer game smelling like piss.

Life on the road... Can be hectic, tiring, and a lot of fun. My dream is to go on tour one day.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Definitely the first time I ever went on the Giant Drop at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. I was only 11 and I lost me voice from screaming.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band? I would say Post Malone. He's got some pretty classy one-liners.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? AMSTERDAM FOR SURE! NO RULES AND SPACE CAKE IS SOLD IN CAFES!

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party? The legend Mr. Ozzy Ozbourne, Post Malone and last but not least Jimi Hendrix if he was still alive. Those three are so inspirational in the music industry and can you imagine the stories they'd have for me!

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Hope you guys like BBQ.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? More of a dog person than a cat person, but pets are companions and they don't have the ability to break your heart, so 100 per cent love them.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Great Northern. Why you ask? 'Cause it's the beer from up here.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Probably the start of this year when I told myself to stop slacking and put some meat on my bones. . . didn't last long.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Laundry. Hate it with a passion and will avoid it at all costs until I bring it back to my mum so she can do it for me. My advice, never be good at something you don't wanna do.

Do you have any phobias? I'm scared of spiders and other creepy crawlers, but not nearly as much as I used to be.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Yeah, 100 per cent. I mean who doesn't wanna be 'The Bachelor' – 25 hotties all fighting for a ride on my biscuit, what more could you ask for?

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I consider myself a bit of a prankster, but I'd have to get my little brother. He's just turned 18 and needs to realise what's really out there in the big, bad world. I'd prank him by drawing a big, bad schlong on the bonnet of his car.

Best local takeaway joint for a 2am feed that will leave you with a food coma? I think most people would say Maccas 'cause it's the only damn thing open at 2am; can't beat a Betty's burger though. . . wish they were open 24 hours.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? I would have to say the genie from 'Aladdin'. I'm so random and love to quote funny things and do impressions. I find myself way too funny sometimes.

Last show you binge-watched? If you haven't seen 'Jupiters Legacy' you haven't lived.
