Introducing Soviet X-Ray Record Club

Soviet X-Ray Record Club
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Direct from Ipswich are the self-labelled ‘post-surf-goth’ five-piece, Soviet X-Ray Record Club.

With a new, limited edition 7” vinyl release for their latest single, ‘Good Things [I Only Think Of]', now available, the guys have upcoming shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Who is Soviet X-Ray Record Club? A five-piece post-punk/ surf-goth band from Ipswich. We rehearse in a fire station. We are just about to tour our newest single 'Good Things [I Only Think Of]' from our upcoming album 'Wake' (released later in 2014).

We sound like... Waves, caves and too much reverb. David Lynch on winter holiday at the beach?

Our first gig was... The very windy, very cold and sadly non-existent Green Room in Toowoomba.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... When we decided to play what we all really like to play. Not unanimous at first, but it is now.

In the studio we usually... Curse, joke and don't see each other so much.

If we could tour with anyone... A Savages, NIN, Horrors mega-tour would be pretty intense to be around night after night.

Social media is... Disappointing on so many levels.

My favourite app at the moment is... A TR808 emulator: for those beats on the run, and an air- horn emulator so I can complete the annoying DJ ensemble.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... We tried to perform Chris Isaak's ‘Wicked Game’, high bits and all, at my own wedding — genius drunk idea!

Life on the road can be... An interesting and usually pleasant, and sometimes strange, window into other people's lives and our own debauchery.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Coffee, wine and one Frisbee please.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in was... That freaky-ass turbulence you get over the Philippines.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Nick Cave. Well dressed, well read, well written and he doesn't seem likely to take much crap.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party? Juillan Barrat, Noel Fielding and Rich Fulcher. Need I say more.

Rich FulcherRich Fulcher

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Something Italian, then something chocolate, then something alcoholic.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Death By Audio effects pedals.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Never. Fuck paying to exercise. Jillian Michaels all the way. Plus, no one needs to see my milk-bottle tan in public.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Mowing my sub-tropical jungle of a lawn, snakes and all.
