Introducing Singer-Songwriter Jade Holland

Jade Holland is a country singer-songwriter from Queensland.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Queensland country rock-pop singer-songwriter, Jade Holland's latest release is the feel-good bop 'Oh My Heart'.

Written for the inner romantic inside all of us, 'Oh My Heart' will have you reaching for your ten gallon hat and boot-scootin' direct to the dance floor for a hearty boogie.

With a run of regular Queensland live shows well into 2023, Jade sits down to discuss her journey so far as well as sharing her favourite TV show, ideal travel destination and birds popping on her while on a date.

Who is Jade Holland... If Crocodile Dundee had a daughter who liked sparkles, it would be me. I was a little bush kid growing up in Kuranda, a little hippie town with my parents and my little brother, and since have travelled Australia and the world with my music.

I sound like... A cross between Miranda Lambert, The Chicks and Alanis Morissette. Well that's what I think anyway ha-ha.

My first gig was... Well, I wasn't always a singer; my parents weren't actually sure of what I was going to grow up to be but I went to an open-mic night when I was 11 years old and I pointed at the singer on the stage and said to my parents "I want to do that!".

It was at the Walkman Country Music open-mic night in Mareeba. I had only learnt one country song, which was 'The Captain' by Kasey Chambers and I sang it terribly! But I absolutely loved every minute and I got off stage and said to my parents "I WANT TO DO THAT AGAIN!" and they said 'Ok. We might have to do some practice ha-ha!"

In the studio I usually... Take lots of tea with me. I always find studios quite cold, so I look like I'm dressed for the snow and sipping hot tea.

If I could tour with anyone... I would love to tour with The Chicks! I love what they stand for. I love their music and their songwriting. I would be in heaven.

Social media is... I don't mind social media. I do try really hard to have a social/ life balance as I believe in living in the moment, but I also know that sometimes that moment needs to be captured and shared, so I work on this on a regular basis.

My favourite app at the moment is... Capcut, ha-ha! I have been trying to step up my social media skills, so I started making little videos to promo my new single and have been trying to learn some new things.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Well, a bird decided to poop on my shoulder on my first date with my (now) fiancé! Which I was pretty embarrassed about but, he kindly cleaned it off for me.

Then on our second date, the exact same thing happened again and I just felt like I couldn't be embarrassed anymore about this; I just needed to accept that birds have an issue with me ha-ha.

Life on the road can be... Taxing on my suitcase! I am the worst person at folding my clothes or putting them away properly, it looks like a war zone in my suitcase. So I often find that my suitcase won't close and then I have to sit on it to make it happen.

If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that my rider contains... Tim Tams.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Well it only happened the other day; we were playing an outdoors festival.

There was a HUGE storm coming over and it started raining right at the start of my set, so the sound guys were running around putting garbage bags on the speakers and with the crazy winds one of the bags flew off and clocked me in the head mid song. It was pretty funny but also I was super freaked out.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be your spokesperson... Probably Jimmy Fallon! I think he would be hilarious to work with and as my spokesperson I think everyone would have the best time.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Italy. This is an easy one. I love everything Italian. I am pretty sure I was Italian in my past life. I love their food, their culture, the people. EVERYTHING!

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Steve Irwin (if he was still with us, we miss you Steve), Miranda Lambert and Dolly Parton. I think between all of us we would have one hell of a party!

There would be absolutely ZERO egos, everyone would be sitting there having the time of their life and it would be funny as hell.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Steak. I can cook a mean rare steak with crispy chips and avocado salad.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? I LOVE all kinds of animals. We have a little English Staffy named Watson and he is my best friend.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Roku gin ha-ha it's my favourite.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... I have a little home gym; does that count? I visited there on Monday.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Putting my clothes away. I am a shocker.

Do you have any phobias... Clowns. It's a no from me!

Would you ever partake in a reality show? I would love to go on 'I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here', not because I'm a celebrity by any means but because I love the games and competitions they have to do; it looks scary but fun.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Hahahaha I could never do this; I can't keep a secret to save my life! I would fail before I even started.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Unfortunately I am a sucker for McDonalds. I know, I know. Don't hold it against me.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? Is Hermione Granger from 'Harry Potter' a fictional character? I feel like I am very much like her personality wise and really good at solving problems.

Last show you binge-watched? 'Yellowstone'. LOVE IT!
