Introducing Singer-Songwriter Eliott

Eliott is a singer-songwriter from Victoria.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A singer-songwriter from Victoria with the innate ability to convey a range of emotive tones with her music, Eliott has today (11 August) released her debut album.

"I'm Eliott, a singer-songwriter who was born and raised in country Victoria, but I am currently residing in Melbourne. From a young age I have always been drawn to songwriting, particularly music that is heartfelt and raw.

"I have been singing my whole life, whether it being at a country pub in Cobram or learning to harmonise with my mum on long trips to boarding school.

"I properly cut my teeth in the music industry around age 19, which is when I started writing and releasing my own music. I've navigated my way through the complex (and sometimes treacherous) waters of the music industry, and am starting to find my feet and my voice as an artist who is ready to tell her story."

Titled 'Just Calling To Tell You I'm Okay', it's a debut record brimming with both tender and powerful moments; a 12-track journey 'of fracturing relationships, self-discovery, and gentle, hopeful rebirth'.

"I can't believe I'm finally saying these words. My debut album will be yours on 11 August.

"Making this album was an unexpected and much needed therapy session which helped me through a period of pain, growth and healing. It's everything I couldn't say during those calls to tell you I was ok.

"This album became my anchor during the chaos of my early 20s, it became a safe place for me to smile, to cry, to love and to speak my truth. And now, after keeping it close for so long, I'm finally ready to let it go.

"It has been a labour of love by so many (I'll get to that later) and I hope you will find your own personal connection with it."

Ahead of her performance at Sunshine Sounds Festival (Sunshine Coast) in early September alongside album launch shows in Melbourne (12 Aug) and Sydney (19 Aug), we get to know Eliott a little bit more.

I sound like... Holly Humberstone, Lennon Stella and Adele. I'd like to think I have a unique sound; I was influenced from a young age by singer-songwriters like Missy Higgins, Eva Cassidy, Adele.

My first gig was... Playing: my first Eliott show was supporting Lanks at Howler in 2017. Before that, I think I played at every pub in country Victoria from a young age.

When did you settle on your name... It took a really long time, and one day I wrote my nickname 'Lottie' on a piece of paper and jumbled it around to make 'Eliott' and it just made sense.

In the studio I usually... Hang out with my friends, talk about the sad sh.t that's going on in my life, write beautiful music.

If I could tour with anyone... Phoebe Bridgers, Kacey Musgraves, Lewis Capaldi, Sam Fender, Lauren Spencer-Smith.

Social media is... Going to be the death of me.

My favourite app at the moment is... Guitar Tuna – keeps me in tune.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... When I was 11, I played Dorothy in the 'Wizard Of Oz' school musical and that day I was very unwell.

When I went to click my heels together to go back to Kansas I needed to run off stage to be sick. But my microphone was still on. . . so everyone in the crowd heard me vomiting from backstage through the speakers. Yeah, I'll never forget that.

Life on the road can be... It comes with its challenges, but I think the good outweighs the bad. Travelling all day and feeling anxious and frazzled can quickly be forgotten when you're onstage doing what you love.

If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains... Lemon and ginger tea for before the show and some Jameson for after.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Trying to get to the front of a Harry Styles concert. . . his fans are certainly dedicated.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? I would love to move to London, it seems like there's a lot of great music/ creative things happening there.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Matthew McConaughey, Joni Mitchell, Phoebe Bridgers – I just love them all so much and I think it would be a very interesting dinner.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Lamb Ragu.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Lover of course.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Kewpie mayo.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Yesterday!

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Cleaning my car.

Do you have any phobias... Not really. I definitely have a fear of snakes and crocodiles though.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Probably something with a challenge, like 'Survivor' or 'The Block'.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I honestly hate seeing people feel embarrassed, so pranking for me is a hard one.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma?
 Sam's Kebabs in Preston.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? Jack-Jack from 'The Incredibles'. I'm a little impatient.

Last show you binge-watched? 'Vanderpump Rules'. . . Scandoval!

Eliott hosts album launches at Northcote Social Club (Melbourne) 12 August and The Lansdowne (Sydney) 19 August. Eliott then joins Frente, Elixir with Michael Leunig, Katie Noonan, Clea, Abby Dobson, Deline Briscoe, and others at Sunshine Sounds Festival (that's part of Horizon Festival) at Eumundi School Of Arts Hall 2-3 September.
