North Queensland emcee Savo has recently dropped his debut EP, ‘Focus’. He's about to tour the country with Bam Bam... let’s meet the man.
Who is Savo... I am Jameel Savage. I live in Innisfail, Queensland and I've been making music in my bedroom for the last nine years.
I sound like… Myself. I’m inspired by a few different artists like Eminem, Drake, Mac Miller, 360 etc. I love the technical writing side of things, just as much as I love to write catchy hooks.
Drake (above) My first gig was… In Townsville. I think I had just turned 17. Instead of me driving the whole three hours there, I brought along my mum who managed to do most of the driving for me, just so I could play in front of a crowd of about 15 people.
When did you settle on your name? Savo has actually been my nickname all through my high school days. It's just short for my surname 'Savage'. I'm pretty sure there's a few people who don't know my actual first name.

In the studio I usually… Light incense and record music alone in the dark, like the loner I am. And I refuse to start without a healthy serving of ice coffee.
Social media is… Basically my life for now. I use it so much to get my music out there. I actually have a song on my recent EP called 'Internet Alcoholic' explaining this exact question. To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time… I had someone draw a certain object on my forehead when I was at a party. I didn't realise I had been walking around the whole night with it drawn on me; until I got on Facebook the next day and saw pictures that I was tagged in.
Life on the road can be... To be honest I wouldn't know what 'life on the road' is like just yet. But I am about to tour nationally with Bam Bam, and I’m guessing it’s going to get pretty wild.
Bam BamIf you’ll have me on your bill, all I ask is that my rider contains… A four-pack of green Mother energy drinks, Connoisseur cookies and cream ice-cream and a fresh white towel.
The most scary scenario I’ve found myself in, was… I was actually involved in a serious car crash in 2012. I cannot remember a thing, but having someone else explain to me what happened when I woke up in hospital made my heart stop. Savo’s debut EP, ‘Focus’, is out now.
