A WAM Award-nominated artist, Riley Pearce’s own alternative-folk style has organically grown from his changing surroundings.
From a childhood spent in Holland, Melbourne and Perth he somehow manages to make you feel like you’re in all three places at once. With a new single available to download online, ‘Roskie’, the 21-year-old singer/ songwriter has already enjoyed support slots with Lisa Mitchell, Josh Pyke and Kim Churchill.
Who is Riley Pearce… I’m an alternative-folk artist from Perth.
I sound like… Ben Howard and Angus Stone’s lovechild.
Ben Howard
My first gig was… Does playing in a primary school band with your teacher count? We played ‘Eagle Rock’ if that helps my case?
In the studio I usually… Panic over having to make important decisions that end up becoming permanent.
If I could tour with anyone… Coldplay or The Jezabels.
The Jezabels
Social media is… Slowly taking over my life.
My favourite app at the moment is… ESPN NBA Fantasy – gotta keep track of my team.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time… Probably when supporting Kim Churchill and the first song, my string broke. I had no spare guitar, so I had to borrow his and he was on the side of the stage changing my strings. Good first impression.

Life on the road can be… Uncomfortable, but you get used to sleeping where you have to.
If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that my rider contains… Bottles of water. I’m an easy man to please. When I’m big enough, I’d probably add food to that list.
The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was… Probably when I was busking in Fremantle and this old guy stole money out of my case. I was pretty young then and was just intimidated and unsure what to do.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band… Will Ferrell or Kevin Hart; both guys are hilarious and are full of absolute nonsense.
Kevin Hart
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party… Ross Noble (for dinner conversation), Jamie Oliver (somebody has to cook and it shouldn’t be me) and Jennifer Aniston (I don’t need a reason to invite her).
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Pasta, steak or burritos (my housemate Sam would find this hilarious).
No matter the expense, send me a case of… $200,000 from the ‘Deal Or No Deal’ set.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was… Yesterday. I try to keep healthy as much as I can.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Dishes.
Do you have any phobias... please explain? Snakes, definitely snakes. It’s easy to tell what a spider is thinking, but snakes are sneaky bastards.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? If so, what type? Yes, ‘The Amazing Race’. But I’d probably lose in the first round.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I’m terrible with pranks, I’d probably just do it to my little brother. I’ve never tried the glueing the coin to the pavement trick, but I should.
Riley Pearce launches his new single, ‘Roskie’, at Mojo’s Bar in Fremantle on Thursday 20th November with support from Stillwater Giants and Logan Crawford.
