Recently celebrating their 365th rotation around the sun together as Pelvis, the three-piece psych-rock band from Adelaide are looking forward to a productive summer.
"We have got some exciting stuff to show y'all soon! Until then, remember to look after each other and we'll see ya at a show."The trio of Georgia, Amy and Hannah are gearing up for a trio of shows this week including this Sunday (22 November) as part of The Journey series, which is the opening ceremony for each episode of Parks and Rockreation – part of the GO LIVE programme presented by Umbrella Festival.
The Journey showcases past Music SA students and the journey they've taken since undergoing their Certificate at Music SA. Joining Pelvis is Mum Thinks Blue, Taylor Pfeiffer and Mums Favourite.
If you're interested in studying with Music SA they offer courses for both school students and adult learners. Check out their 2021 courses.
Who is Pelvis... Georgia (vocals, guitar) and Amy (drums, vocals) met at a music camp where Amy noticed Georgia's Soundwave 2015 shirt. They then played the best version of 'Royals' at an open-mic night to eight people. This love and shared appreciation for songs from 2009 found its way to Hannah (bass), who met the pair in a music class, unaware but intrigued.
They started writing together and realised "wow, I really didn't mean to take the joke that far, but I guess we're rolling with it". One lap around the sun later, the trio have played plenty of shows and love all the tunes they have made.
We sound like... Funky/ punk, Nirvana fronted by PJ Harvey (apparently).
Our first gig was... Halloween 2019, with Jim's Band (yes, a whole band dedicated to the Jim's franchise) and The Smocks at a lovely venue called Chateau Apollo.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... This wasn't a unanimous decision. In fact, in the Facebook messenger poll Georgia didn't vote for 'pelvis'. Hannah pulled it out from an unreliable Internet thesaurus. We ended up loving it and now we're Adelaide's only hip-related band (great promo).
In the studio we usually... Get super distracted; we're taking our time even getting to a studio and recording. We're so keen.
If we could tour with anyone... Donny Benet, Bjork, The 1975 and maybe one day do Eurovision or a super-cool festival like Glastonbury.
Social media is... @pelvis.band on Instagram.
My favourite app at the moment is... Pocket frogs! Georgia has a little ecosystem of toads and we love that.
To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... We love taking little moments such as a pedal not working or a cymbal falling down and just roll with it. We're strong believers in having a fun live show – we also love razzing the audience up; it's super fun!
Life on the road can be... Sometimes it takes an hour to get to practice, so if that counts it's pretty hectic.
If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Vegan and vegetarian snacks. We all love baked goods.
The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... Last month. We played a show and Amy was engulfed by the smoke from a smoke machine – looking back at photos and videos you couldn't see her at all.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Robert Irwin. He's a king and loves a good croc.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Georgia did exchange in Italy in 2017 and she's spoken so highly of how beautiful it is.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Ozzy Osborne, Heather (Georgia's mum) and Jamie Oliver.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? We've thought about this before. Amy will serve you a tasty tofu entree, moving onto Hannah's world famous, handmade pasta dish; and to top it all off, Georgia's magnificent raspberry brownies (vegan option available).
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Granny Smith apples.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Wednesday, this is new information that Amy goes to the gym.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Mopping the floors, not cool.
Do you have any phobias... Hannah's scared of moths, Amy hates heights and Georgia fears nothing.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? We'd love to go on 'Australia's Got Talent' and do some circus tricks.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Amy's pretty gullible, but we love her. She's like a little excited puppy; next show we'll take away the bass drum pedal from her (sorry if you see this now Amy!).
