Perth's Jock Raine is adding his name to the quality list of superb singer-songwriters that continue to populate Western Australia.
The indie rock artist made his debut early this year with the impressive 'Don't Go'.Now Jock's back with another serving of sublime, subtle and immensely enjoyable jangly indie rock that meanders at a chilled pace, perfect to cocoon yourself away from the stresses of everyday life.
"When I'm at the beach or around the ocean, I often like to look over at the lighthouse on Rottnest Island and wait for the light to flash back at me every eight seconds as it circles around," shares Jock.
"It's my way of being able to put everything aside and take some time by myself to analyse everything going on in my life right now."
For fans of Spacey Jane and Skegss, Jock recorded and produced 'Waiting' in his home studio.
Who is... Jock Raine is an indie singer-songwriter from Perth, Western Australia, who has been playing the guitar since the age of 13. He spent his teenage years living in Fremantle where his songwriting journey began, originally using GarageBand for his musical ambition and creation.
I sound like... Spacey Jane, Lime Cordiale, Skegss, Hockey Dad, Dune Rats.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... Growing up, my three favourite things were music, sports, and the outdoors. I spent a lot of time on the soccer field and was/ still am very passionate about English Football as well as the American sports scene.
I chose the American term 'jock' to represent my love for sports. 'Raine' is an alternate name I chose in likeness to that of my real name also beginning with 'R'.
In the studio I usually... When I'm not strumming away to a progression I thought of either that day or five months ago, I'd usually be sorting through my Voice Memos on my phone as I like to use this feature to save my ideas instantly so they are fresh in my mind for when inspiration strikes.
I also use the Notes app on my phone to save any lyrics I imagine or feel would work with any currents ideas floating around in my head; it's safe to say the Voice Memos and Notes applications on my phone are some of my most used apps.
If I could tour with anyone... It would definitely have to be either Spacey Jane or Skegss.
My favourite app at the moment... Would have to be Clash Of Clans because I've been grinding the game since middle school and never gets old to me.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... The most scary as well as the most embarrassing scenario I have found myself in was when I went skiing at Perisher in Sydney for the first time on a school trip.
I ended up losing control of my skis skiing down my first big slope after little to no prior practice or experience at a pace. I could not control and ended up rolling down the hill for at least 20 metres in front of the majority of my year group on the tour plus others on the mountain.
It was not the best first run, but it reminded me that practice is key.
Life on the road can be... When I'm out driving and going on trips with my mates, life on the road is pretty sweet, checking out new places, stopping by pubs and getting around it at the beach.
When I'm out doing things like this, I'm probably thinking about how I could turn what I'm thinking or what I'm doing at the time into a song or idea.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... I would love to have Gordon Ramsay onboard as spokesman as he is brutally honest with the truth, isn't afraid to speak his mind and is extremely enthusiastic the way he talks, rendering him a perfect fit for the role.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Definitely Paris as I have always wanted to learn French, but have never had the discipline or the patience to teach myself. Living abroad there would give me the chance to do just that, plus exploring all the things to do there and see.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... If I were hosting a dinner party I would invite over Mark McGowan, Jim Carrey, and Simon Cowell as all are professionals in their respective fields.
I feel hosting guests with backgrounds in the music industry, film industry, and politics could lead to interesting discussions being brought to the table.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? I would most likely cook up and make some fresh burritos as this is my favourite meal to prepare, and I feel it's one that isn't too formal for a chill evening in with guests.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Massive lover of furry friends, but more specifically I am indeed a dog person.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Single Fin.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Probably on television.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Would definitely have to be cleaning.
Do you have any phobias? Not the biggest fan of massive, hairy, huntsmen spiders; I can get all enjoyment necessary from standing at least three meters away.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? If I were to partake in a reality show it would most likely be one relating to travelling.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I would prank my best mate by playing a cracked television screen video on YouTube immediately after pretending to lose my temper on FIFA playing his PS4 (when he is not in the room). Everybody knows what FIFA is capable of.
Best local takeaway joint for a 2am feed that will leave you with a food coma? Fremantle Kebab House.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? Ted Mosby from 'How I Met Your Mother', as he balances his social and work life well, enjoys spending quality time with friends and is passionate about his interests and demonstrates this in many ways. Like myself, he also has a regular pub/ bar that he goes to with his mates after work.
Last show you binge-watched? Re-watching all nine seasons of 'How I Met Your Mother' as it's my favourite television show and I love the relationships all the main characters have with each other and how the show explores these relationships in great detail.
