Introducing Newcastle Singer-Songwriter Lens Theory

Lens Theory is Newcastle singer-songwriter Lennie Edgerton.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The solo project of Newcastle native Lennie Edgerton, Lens Theory's newest single is titled 'One Night Stand', which is about the codependency of alcoholism and the toxic relationships it can foster.

The second song lifted from his forthcoming EP, 'The Road', Lennie has been performing for a quarter of a century across the east coast, as well as working alongside the likes of Marcus Wright (Big Apachee), Grant Walmsley (Screaming Jets) and Lee Rolfe (Regional Music Institute).

The owner-operator of Bella Dose Music (where he has produced EPs for local country music artists Taylor Hack and Jason Carruthers, and the debut EP of Novocastrian all-girl punk band Boycott), Lennie released his first solo EP 'Escaping Reality' in 2014.

Since then, he spent a three-year period as the main songwriter for Central Coast country band Whiskey Business while he also ran and promoted Vacy Blues n' Roots Festival between 2013 and 2015.

'The Road' EP is due later in 2021. "[The Road] is about coming to a crossroad in life and choosing a certain path," Edgerton says.

"It's about life learning experience, growth and my development as a human."

Who is Lens Theory... Is the solo project for Newcastle singer-songwriter Lennie Edgerton. A singer, songwriter, guitarist, composer, business man and damn nice guy.

I sound like... Daughtry meets Richie Sambora with a twist of Keith Urban.

My first gig was... Supporting Kevin Borich at The Wickham Park Hotel in Newcastle 2016.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... Lens Theory is my solo project, so it was my decision.

In the studio I usually... Procrastinate way too much.

If I could tour with anyone... Australian: Thirsty Merc. International: Harem Scarem (Canada).

Social media is... A necessary evil and toxic.

My favourite app at the moment is... Probably Gumtree. I'm always looking for music gear.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Not embarrassing, but putting my project on hold to join another band.

Life on the road can be... Fun but tiring.

If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that the rider contains... Beer and water.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Driving between gigs from St George to Caloundra (in Queensland) early in the morning dodging all the roos. Scary stuff.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Pete Lesperance from Harem Scarem. I think he is an amazing guitarist, songwriter and someone that I can relate to as a composer.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Nashville (not in the current climate though) – to collaborate  with the awesome songwriting community.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Nuno Bettencourt, Pete Lesperance, and Chris Stapleton – to pick their brains on songwriting and composing.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Beef spare ribs in the pellet smoker.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Pacific pale ale.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Two years ago.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Mowing the lawn.

Do you have any phobias? I always thought I was going to die at the age of 37, that was a terrible year. I'm good now... 72 is next.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? 'Survivor' would be pretty cool, that way I'd probably loose a few kilos.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? None, though my work head teacher, Lee Rolfe; I owe him a couple; not sure how though.
