Introducing Melbourne Indie Pop Duo Franny and Zooey

Melbourne sister duo Franny and Zooey's newest single is titled 'Let The River Flow'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Melbourne-based sister duo Franny and Zooey have released their second single 'Let The River Flow', a protest song to end oppression and speak out against injustice and inequality.

It aims to remind people that we are all human, we all have a story, we all have a name, and we all must do our part to change the systems and attitudes ingrained within society that contribute to subjugation and injustice.

For fans of First Aid Kit and Kate Miller-Heidke, 'Let The River Flow' is a song about coming together, speaking up, and fighting for what you believe in.

Who is Franny & Zooey? We are a Melbourne-based sister duo. We've always played music together.

In fact, not only do we sing, perform, and write together, we also work at the same school together. . . and live together! Does this mean we are sick of each other? Not a chance!

We sound like... A mesh of pop, folk, Celtic, with a hint of musical theatre.

Our first gig was... A cruisey Sunday afternoon gig at the Beehive Hotel in Hawthorn, Melbourne.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision… We had a few other names up our sleeve, but settled on the nicknames our literature teacher gave us in high school, based on J.D. Salinger's 'Franny and Zooey'. Unlike in the book, Zooey is not Franny's older brother, but quite the opposite (her little sister).

In the studio we usually… Take in the moment, breathe it in, and think how this could be it. . . this could be our defining moment! Nah, just kidding. Usually we are too busy laughing in between takes to take ourselves too seriously.

If we could tour with anyone… Ohh boy. Kate Miller-Heidke or Delta Goodrem.

Social media is… A conundrum.

My favourite app at the moment is... Google Meet. The only thing keeping us sane and connected during lockdown.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time… When buying an electric shaver for my partner, I asked the store assistant if it was good for trimming. He looked a little awkward and then said, "Ahh, look, I wouldn't recommend it for down there". I immediately realised the miscomunication, thanked him for his advice, and left without asking any further questions.

Life on the road can be… Couldn't tell you as of yet.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains… An abundance of dark chocolate!

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... Zooey: Getting into a criminal's taxi. I thought I was going to be abducted. Franny: Getting deported from Brazil.

What celebrity/famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band (why?)… Missy Higgins. She is authentic and down to earth.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party (why?)… Given the circumstances we would LOVE to see our family. It's been a while.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Some vegan goodness.

No matter the expense, send me a case of… Red, red wiiiine.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was… The day before lockdown #2.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Dishes.

Do you have any phobias? Franny is terrified of off milk.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Probably not, but if we absolutely HAD to, while Franny was fighting contestants to the death on 'Survivor', Zooey would be schmoozing it up with Delta on 'The Voice'.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? EACH OTHER! We are a little crazy, so we'd probably torture each other through some sort of psychological means.
