Introducing Lavidius

Lavidius
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Lavidius are a five-piece metal band that combine groove metal guitar licks, melodic harmony and thunderous bass.

We sound like… You could loosely compare our vocals with Chimaira, drums with Devildriver, the groove riffs with Pantera, the melodic guitar overlays with Opeth and the straight-smacking bass lines with Black Sabbath — but really we take elements from lots of artists and styles.

Our first gig was… The Barra Bar in Springwood (Brisbane).

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision… It was essentially the first made up word we came up with that sounded like it should already exist.

In the studio we usually… Drink tea and eat scones. No not really... Studios cost money and we work during the day and record by night until our bank issues us with an overdrawn notice.

Tea SconesIf we could tour with anyone… Devildriver, Killswitch Engage, Mudvayne, Chimaira, Amon Amarth would be absolutely phenomenal! But we would really be happy to tour with any international band or an Australian band or a local band or that guy who lives down the road that jams with his mate now and again.

Social media is… A necessary evil for band promotion. We actually limit our presence to make sure we are not spamming.

My favourite app at the moment is... Any recording app — if we think of a cool riff or beat we can record it before it’s lost forever. Then we can listen back to it later and laugh at ourselves because we once thought that actually sounded remotely cool.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time… Not that we find it embarrassing, but our lead singer (Nizzy) fell off the stage once — granted he had EBV and shouldn’t have been performing.

Life on the road can be... Very fast if you learn to sleep in a vertical position — unless you’re driving.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains… Two or more bearded nuns must drive us around in diesel carts.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band… Mark Hunter (Chimaira) — if he even acknowledged our band it would be a dream come true!

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party… Alissa White-Gluz, Corey Taylor and Howard Jones (Killswitch) — it would be good to pick their brains for stage presence and any other tips, or even share a drink or two.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? We probably would allocate 96 percent of the budget to booze and settle for bulk sausages and a loaf of bread — you’re probably more inclined to like us if we got you drunk.

Damn the expense, send me a case of… Wild Turkey Rare Breed.

Wild Turkey Rare BreedThe last time I saw the inside of a gym was… Only one member works out regularly — for the rest it may have been a while.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Setting up and packing down equipment. Or if you’re looking for something non-band related then gardening is right up there in the top three.

Lavidius play Vibe Metal at Indooroopilly Hotel this Friday August 8. Frayed And The Fallen are also on the bill.
