This Friday The Seed Project continues at the Melbourne Street Green at QPAC.
One of the live performers on the night will be Gold Coast musician Jake Whittaker.
Who is Jake Whittaker? A dread-headed, singer-songwriter, with a desire to becoming a professional, original music artist. Someone who will often be found surfing when I should be studying, but always making music any chance I can.
I sound like… My style keeps evolving really. My influences are Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Donavon Frankenreiter and Allen Stone.
 Allen Stone
Allen StoneMy first gig was… Was at an open mic night at a local suburban pub. I was 13 years old. I sang John Mayer’s ‘Waiting On The World To Change’. It was totally intimidating, but completely exhilarating experience all at the same time. I knew then that I wanted to experience that feeling over and over again. Hopefully it will be more exhilarating and less intimidating.
In the studio I usually… Sleep… A lot! With the music degree I am doing at the moment, I practically live in the studio. It’s all centred around writing, recording and producing, so we all spend a lot of time there.
If I could tour with anyone… Hands down Jack Johnson. He is definitely one of my biggest musical influences. He is so humble and always keen to share the stage with friends and fellow musos. I think that off stage he would be a great guy and amazing mentor.
 Jack Johnson
Jack JohnsonSocial media is... Both brilliant and evil. Love it or hate it, it is here to stay, so I plan to utilise it for good, not evil. Therefore I say (shameless plug!) check out my Facebook.
To date my most embarrassing moment was the time… I was on tour last year and stopped at a country service station in central NSW to fill up the tank in the Winnebago. I filled it right to the top and then a kind old country dude pointed out that I had in fact filled the tank with petrol. It was a diesel truck. I had to be towed to the nearest mechanics. Safe to say a few hundred dollars later I learned my lesson!
Life on the road can be… Touring is the ultimate experience for me. I toured for the first time last year, through SA, Vic, NSW and Queensland and loved it. I’m heading off again this July and can’t wait. Travelling with my band is a blast. We tour on a shoestring budget, singing for our supper. I am really passionate about my desire for this generation to experience and embrace awesome live, original music.
The most scary scenario I’ve found myself in was… When I was out surfing recently I saw a fin coming towards me, and then disappear under the water. Then something to the right of me jumped out of the water. I screamed like a little girl, and almost fell off my board, but it turned out to be a school of dolphins. Everyone else in the water thought it was pretty hilarious. I didn’t see the funny side of it.
What celebrity would you love to be your spokesperson? Zach Galifianakis. Look up Zach’s interviews on ‘Between Two Ferns’ and you’ll know why.
