Introducing Indie Rockers To The Skies

To The Skies are an indie rock band from Gold Coast.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A band who released their biggest single, 'Echo', just a week prior to the pandemic altering life forever in 2020, To The Skies have had their fair share of disappointment the last couple of years.

Later in 2020, the band fell out with their then management that was a setback at the time; add the fact they couldn't tour to capitalise on the momentum 'Echo' gained, the band penned the pandemic anthem 'Screw The Situation' in 2021.

Since then To The Skies have opened for the likes of GANGgajang, The Radiators, The Chats, and Ben Hazlewood; while they spent a large chunk of 2022 on the road with 'The Voice' winner Natalie Gauci and emerging Aussie country star Jade Holland.

"Going through your 20s is weird," shares the band's lead vocalist Lachy Fahey. "You journey through such a myriad of different versions of yourself to figure out who you want to be as a person.

"All you need is to be able to take the time to figure out what you want in life, and who you want to be."

That sentiment sees the band arrive at their newest single, 'Who I Am' – a song about uprising, speaking up, standing up and having the courage to be who you are.

Who is... To The Skies is an electrifying three-piece band hailing from the sun-kissed shores of Queensland, Australia. Combining their individual musical talents, they've created a sound that's as unique as it is energetic, blending elements of rock, pop, and indie to create an unforgettable sonic experience.

With a reputation for delivering dynamic live performances, To The Skies has taken their music to audiences across Australia, leaving fans energised and inspired.

Whether you're a fan of catchy hooks or anthemic choruses, To The Skies is sure to leave you soaring with their infectious energy and undeniable talent. Get ready to rise with To The Skies.

We sound like... To The Skies! I do believe that, but to list some of our musical influences: U2 and The 1975.

Our first gig was... At our local the Palmwoods Hotel, which is quite literally like one minute down the road from our house.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... We tossed and turned on about five billion band names before we settled on To The Skies in the most random way.

We were watching a random movie on Netflix to pass time and one of the movie chapters was called 'Closer To The Sky', which resonated with us and eventually turned into To The Skies.

In the studio we usually... We almost always start with a jam session because that's where all of the best songs come from; and from there we hustle, either continuing to work on what we've made if we feel it's something good, or we are refining/ writing another song in the pipeline.

If we could tour with anyone... Different answers for all of us I'm sure, but as I'm the one answering this question (Lockie) it's gonna have to be U2.

Social media is... Don't even get me started on social media. As they say, can't live with it; can't live without it. You could be the most talented band in the world, but if you don't have a social media presence then good luck, it's just as important as the music these days.

My favourite app at the moment is... YouTube. What more needs to be said, it's YouTube.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... Thankfully, we don't have any super embarrassing moments, but we have plenty of war stories that's for sure. Choose your managers wisely.

Life on the road can be... Tiring but fun! We love to spend the day in the local city and explore the area, we all love food and coffee. It's a treat to live it up for the weekend inside a fancy hotel, but more often than not we are seeing the inside of a motel room – that's not quite the same.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... When we 'make it' our dream rider will most certainly contain choccy milk, lemon lime and bitters, and Guzman Y Gomez.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... The other boys will not agree with me on this one, but we played a gig inside a theme park, which was one of the coolest experiences ever.

Before the gig started though, we had free access to go on whatever rides we wanted for two hours, which is fantastic except for the fact that I'm terrified of roller coasters and the other boys are adrenaline junkies. I did brave up once, however, and ended up going on a ride, which as it turned out, was just as terrifying as I imagined.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Chris Hemsworth because he is a likeable, down to earth Australian with a large platform and his image as a confident and charismatic performer would be a great match for our brand.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Tokyo, Japan. Japan has the best food and technology in the world, winner-winner. Plus it has a rich cultural heritage with beautiful parks, gardens and temples. If not Tokyo then Florence, Italy, for the same reasons.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Elon Musk – because he's a visionary entrepreneur and always pushing the boundaries of what's possible. I would love to hear about his plans for colonising Mars, self-driving cars and what's next for humanity.

Freddie Mercury – as one of the greatest rock frontmen of all time, Freddie Mercury would add an electrifying energy to the dinner party. I would love to hear him sing a few songs and talk about the creative process behind his music. He was known for his incredible voice and stage presence, so it would be a real treat to have him perform for us.

The final person I would like to have at my dinner table is C.S. Lewis. As a renowned author, philosopher, and Christian apologist, Lewis would bring a rich diversity of experiences and ideas to the table. I have read a lot of his famous works, such as 'The Chronicles Of Narnia' and 'Mere Christianity'. He was a brilliant mind, a captivating storyteller and a critical thinker; I'm sure he would keep everyone entertained throughout the evening.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Probably Mexican. Who doesn't love tacos?!

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? A lover! I have two small doggos, but I wish that otters were a legal pet in Australia, they would be so fun!

No matter the expense, send me a case... of Choccy milk! We are obviously huge party animals if you can't tell by our rider and now this question.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Yesterday. Good thing I'm answering this question and not the other boys.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Putting my clothes away. I'm fantastic at putting them in the washing machine and dryer, and then putting them on the clothesline, but then they tend to live there for too long until I finally put them away.

Do you have any phobias... As I have already alluded to, roller coasters are definitely not for me. However my only actual major phobia is snakes. I'm completely terrified of them and I have no idea why. I won't even go to my best friend's house because he has a pet snake downstairs.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? I don't think it counts as a reality show but 'Wipeout' or 'Ninja Warrior' would be incredibly fun.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I recently was the victim of a vicious prank. Apparently there was a new software update on the printer at work that makes it voice activated, all you had to do is say your full name and then 'print' and BAM; it prints for you.

So there I am, talking to the printer in the middle of the staff room, saying my name over and over again and wondering why it doesn't work. Took me a second to realise, then I turn around and other staff members (who have already been pranked) are having an absolute blast watching me.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma?
A sneaky kebab or a Maccas run are the only acceptable foods past midnight.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? Indiana Jones. He is known for his adventurous spirit, kindness, and optimistic outlook. He always strives to do what's right and is willing to take risks to achieve his goals. Hopefully others would say I am the same.

Last show you binge-watched? The last show I binge watched is 'Andor'. It's a Star Wars original series, spy/ thriller/ espionage show; it's a bit of a slow burner but when it all comes together at the end it's incredible.
