About to turn 18 and with a debut 7-date UK tour just around the corner, Wollongong indie alternative artist Aodhan has already built a solid reputation as an emerging talent destined for global stages.
Last year, Aodhan aka Aidan Whitehall released his debut EP 'Flies In My Room' (featuring the singles 'Twelve Again' and 'I'm Closed') while he joined the Like A Version alumni by covering The Cars' classic 'Just What I Needed'.Ahead of appearing at the Canberra leg of Groovin The Moo next week (24 April), get to know Aodhan a little better.
Who is Aodhan... I am a 17-year-old artist from Wollongong, making alt rock, alt pop, and alt folk. I began producing electronic music when I was 12, which is around the same time I started getting pretty passionate about playing guitar and singing.
My first gig was... I think my first gig as Aodhan was some corporate event at the Maritime Museum in Sydney, just a couple of short solo sets. I had previously played a song or two at a few of my dad's gigs though, when I was about 13, 14.
In the studio I usually... In my home studio I usually come up with a cool idea, work on it for about 20 minutes, and then never touch it again. I do manage to finish a song sometimes though which is good.
I absolutely love spending time at Hercules St Studios in Sydney though; I seem to get more work done there with my friend Ryan Miller (producer).
If I could tour with anyone... It'd be Wallows for sure. They're one of my faves.
Social media is... Trash. I hate it, but it's all part of the game. There is some funny content out there though.
My favourite app at the moment is... The weather app for sure, then I can see what the weather is.
Life on the road can be... Not too sure. I think I'll find out in May when I tour in the UK.
If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains... Spicy mi goreng noodles.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Toronto because it's where Scott Pilgrim is from. Also the music scene is pretty cool in Canada apparently.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Raphael (red ninja turtle), Scott Pilgrim, my character from 'Skyrim'.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Spicy mi goreng noodles.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Pets are awesome, I have a dog named Jewel. She thinks my room is a toilet, but I could never stay mad at her.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Pepsi Max.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Excluding my little home set up which I don't use, about a year ago at school.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Probably washing. My clothes stay on the floor for about two business weeks before washing.
Do you have any phobias... Snakes. I don't know why. I've always been scared of them.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Probably Jordan. Maybe just smack him in the face with a cheese slice or something while he's sleeping. Wouldn't be the first time. F... you Jordan!
Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Sam's Kebabs, Albion Park Rail.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? The best I could think of would be Finn from 'Adventure Time'. I tend to use a lot of the goofy language he uses, I like making friends, I like exploring.
Last show you binge-watched? Just finished 'Modern Family'. My family and I have loved that show for a very long time; was nice to revisit it, quite nostalgic actually. It's a really nice comfort show.
Aodhan is part of the Fresh Produce line-up at the Canberra leg of Groovin The Moo 24 April.
