Brisbane duo HAM confide the following facts about itself:
• It doesn’t really know what it’s style is
• It’s members all change nappies
• That beard growth has long been a perennial passion for all band members
With a new album currently in the works, Ham will play as part of The City Sounds music program this weekend.
Who is… HAM is Adam Campbell and Rohan Staples; two dads. Acoustic jams with banter aplenty.
We sound like... An unusual mixup of roots, funk and folk music. Adam coined the term DIY roots, which pretty much wraps it up.
Our first gig was... At The Joynt, West End.
When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... It was certainly unanimous, HAM is short for 'Hit And Miss', which is pretty much the story of our lives, and what happened to all the other band names we came up with.
In the studio we usually... Have to wing it 'cause we haven't rehearsed properly. And always have to add something stupid to each song.
If we could tour with anyone… Barnsy?
Social media is… An intermittent affair.
To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time… We don't get embarrassed, but when Adam stands up at a gig he doesn't know what to do with his legs.
Life on the road can be… A distant memory.
If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains… Beer and pizza?
The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in… Being responsible for small children. I'm pretty sure in both our minds we're still kids too.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band… Tom Waits, 'cause he's TOM FUCKING WAITS!
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party (why?)… This has gone from a band interview to random questions because someone thought that'd be cool. Adam can deal with this crap next time.
No matter the expense, send me a case of… Money.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was… I don't do gyms.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Interviews.
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Wow, this questionnaire went downhill.
HAM play the Milano Café on Queen Street Mall this Saturday 28 March, 11.30am as part of The City Sounds programme.
