The alter ego of Brisbane based singer-songwriter Emily Brewis.
You sound like...
Lots of layers of vocals, ambient keyboards and guitars combined together with a mix of spacious electronic and organic beats.
My first gig was…
Brisbane Crown Casino singing Stevie Wonder hits to desperate middle-aged singles.
When did you settle on your name?
I used to perform under my own name as a soloist, but after I finished recording the EP, I decided the music deserved its own identity. I searched for months on a name, and finally came across Fieu in a travellers guide to Switzerland. It was in the emergency words under 'Fire'. It excited me so I went with it.
In the studio you usually...
Eat a lot of cookies, drink vodka and channel Viking space-horse creativity.
If you could tour with anyone...
Florence Welch, even if it was just to share her wardrobe!
Social media is...
Time consuming yet revolutionary. I’ve been able to meet people I ordinarily would have never have had the chance to. It’s even sparked some cool collab opportunities.
Life on the road can be...
Isolating, peaceful, self-reflecting.
If we'll have you on our bill, all you ask is that your rider contains...
Cookies and vodka.
The most scary scenario you've found myself in was...
Actually during shooting for the music video! In the dam scene I had to squelch through knee-deep mud and swim into slimy thick tentacle-like weeds, AND there was a brown snake lurking near, but no one told me that part until we were well and truly off site.
What celebrity would you love to be spokesperson of the band?
Jack Black, so we could co-write the greatest song in the world.
Fieu launches her new single, 'Put It On The Line', at The Bearded Lady on Saturday May 17.
