Introducing Electro Pop Duo Have A Good Day

Have A Good Day are an electro-pop duo from Perth.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

The musical partnership of two Perth musicians, James MacCallum and Luke Minness, Have A Good Day are all about feel-good energy and recreating those summery festival moments.

Earlier this month, they released their debut single – the sugary-sweet 'Somebody, Nobody' that fans of The 1975 and Empire Of The Sun will get around.

Although just starting out as Have A Good Day, James and Luke have a wealth of music experience having supported artists like Alpine, The Presets, Wafia and San Cisco with their other projects.

'Somebody, Nobody' is about the love and space one's support system fills after a relationship has ended. The track explores how the connection to one's own body, the connection to nature and to loved ones can help bring life into perspective.

Who is... Have A Good Day. We are an electro-pop duo from Perth who make music to accompany your most memorable nights. Think about your favourite summer-festival memory and then imagine us playing there in your head, that's where we want to be.

We sound like... Gus Dapperton, The 1975, BAYNK.

Our first gig was... It's coming up. Keep your eyes peeled for our first gig. Both of us have performed and written a lot in other bands around the Perth scene though.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... It was the first name we came up with and I guess it just stuck.

In the studio we usually... hyperfocus in the studio, often spending hours working on a single sound. The goal is always to finish a song in a night.

If we could tour with anyone... Rufus Du Sol have always been a dream band for us to tour with. They are incredible.

Social media is... A bit of fun if you don't take it too seriously. Neither of us take ourselves too seriously.

My favourite app at the moment is... TikTok.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Splitting my pants on stage; he's a dancer.

Life on the road can be... Joyful.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Beefarm Royal Haze.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... Skydiving.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Gilbert Gottfried – voice of an angel.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? LA. Both of us have dreams of songwriting more for other artists.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Lauryn Hill, Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator. Deep chats for sure.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Jimmy makes a mean Shakshuka.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Lover, my dog looks like an Ewok.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Beer, boring but beer.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... A year?! It shows.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Putting away the laundry.

Do you have any phobias... I guess death ahaha.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? 'Survivor' for sure. That show is not a holiday.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Jimmy: April Fools is huge in my family. I once tricked my best mate that I had been signed by Jay Z. Still time to make that dream come true.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? The Moon in Northbridge; always a great hang.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? Popeye, huge muscles and love spinach.

Last show you binge-watched? 'Love Is Blind'; it is so painful to watch but so good.
