Introducing Dream-pop Band LUCIDBLOOM

LUCIDBLOOM are a dream-pop band from Blue Mountains.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A band who craft hazy, cinematic, lush, ethereal, hypnotic dream-pop, post-rock soundscapes that would fit perfectly in a David Lynch or Coen Brothers soundtrack, LUCIDBLOOM are a group from the Blue Mountains quickly gaining a loyal audience.

After a trio of singles in 2023 - 'Among The Pines', 'Silos' and 'Post Everything' – the five-piece begin their 2024 campaign with new single 'Signals In The Skies', a vibrant swirl of angular indie rock cloaked in opulent dark pop.

Recorded at Studio85 by Murray Sheridan and produced by the band, the single highlights LUCIDBLOOM's signature atmospheric soundscapes and thought-provoking concepts.

"The song explores the feeling of rising tensions, from within a lucid dream state, where reality feels distorted, and every decision carries urgency," lyricist Katrina Noorbergen says.

Who is... LUCIDBLOOM are five friends hailing from the Blue Mountains, including two siblings that sound identical and sing many, many harmonies just because. We make music and put on epic live shows about the end of the world, with swirling sound, lights and smoke.

We sound like... Warpaint, Wolf Alice, Howling Bells and Cocteau Twins.

Our first gig was... Petersham Bowling Club. We curated a femme-fronted, dream-pop line-up under LLLUSH, along with a custom designed light show, so we went all out for the debut, but we packed out the place to create a very cute school hall meets Dark Mofo vibe.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... We were writing during a very uncertain and surreal time, with all the floods, fires and pandemic lockdowns occurring in rapid succession. LUCIDBLOOM reflects the cinematic and surreal qualities of the sound that emerged from this time.

In the studio we usually... Dorky dance, drink too much coffee, sing a thousand harmonies, and make a band fam feast to enjoy together.

If we could tour with anyone... Warpaint, James Blake, Radiohead and Kate Bush.

Social media is... A strange, hilarious, terrifying place.

My favourite app at the moment is... Voice Memo – all the little fragments of every song, idea and melody sung in a car, exist HERE!

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... Kat tripped over her bass cable at band practice and fell off a stool, caught herself, tripped again, caught herself, tripped AGAIN. It was a three-stage stack, intertwined with cables and a musical instrument. There is a video but we won't do that to her.

Life on the road can be... Full of snacks and belting out '90s bangers in the car.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Espresso martinis and spicy margaritas.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... Being told to leave the mountains because the fire is coming from both sides. Cleaning a layer of ash and burnt leaves off the car. Or anytime I'm at the beach and there is a moderate sized wave.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... David Lynch.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Berlin, Tokyo or Portugal = culture, food and lifestyle.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Thom Yorke, Courtney Love and Noel Fielding.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Slow-cooked ragu and pappardelle.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Lover – always. We all have adorable floofs in the band. Jen's cats have their own Instagram.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Don Julio Reposado Tequila.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Today!

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Mopping, a sad, sloppy sister to the vacuum.

Do you have any phobias... Cotton balls – the texture, the squeak, dear god; and people near high cliffs or edges.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Yes – probably something about being a crazy pet mum.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I told my four-year-old son that all the dinosaurs died because they didn't brush their teeth.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Manoosh pizza.

Which fictional character best describes your personality (why)? Wednesday Adams or Daria.

Last show you binge-watched? 'The Last Of Us'.

LUCIDBLOOM launch their debut EP 'Calamity' (that's due 17 May) at Oxford Art Factory (Sydney) 30 May. The band also support Fragile Animals at The Alley Band Room (Sydney) 19 April.
