Introducing Chase City

Chase City
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

With cues from the likes of Vampire Weekend, Last Dinosaurs and Two Door Cinema Club, Chase City have all the winning ingredients of a band who will soundtrack your summer.

With the band about to start a massive tour around this big, sunburnt country, we asked frontman, Tarik Stoneman, some serious and not-so serious questions.

We sound like… A blend of guitar pop and rock with sun-drenched melodies taking cues from the likes of Vampire Weekend and The Strokes.

Our first gig was... At my mum's 50th; we played an hour set to 30, middle-aged women.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision... Long story, but I was in Europe, someone came up with the idea for Chase City but we never really agreed on it. One night a band page was up on Facebook with a bunch of people liking it, so we had to keep it!

In the studio we usually... Chill out and stay relaxed. We always pick secluded studios so we can have a holiday at the same time as recording.

If I could tour with anyone... It would have to be The Wombats. Many years ago, they were the band that got a lot of us into indie-rock music, plus we hung out with them at Falls Festival last year and they were cool dudes.

Social media is... Is a blessing in disguise. It can be frustrating at times but without it we would be toast.

My favourite app at the moment is... I don’t actually have a phone, they annoy me a lot!

Life on the road can be... Tiring but so much fun. I think we live for getting out and touring. Awesome to travel and meet people while playing shows and doing what we love.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... A bunch of Sailor Jerry and curry please.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... I'm really scared of flying, so when I first got on a flight at ten years of age, I was spooked.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Leanardo De Caprio would be cool, or maybe even Johnny Depp. One tweet and we would blow up like Carly Rae Jepsen.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Julian Casablancas, Dave Grohl and Freddy Mercury – what a combination.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Chicken tikka masala.

Tikka MasalaNo matter the expense, send me a case of... A case of Willie Smith Cider (Tasmanian organic cider) would be nice.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Two days ago. We did some photos 'cause our video was on Channel V. We posed on some of the machines while our song was on in the background.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Any chore really. Dishwasher, wiping up or mowing lawns all suck.
