A number of years since his last release, Brisbane artist Logan Skinner explores an alternative rock sonic palette on his new single 'Lost'.
A song detailing themes related to the disconnection felt in the midst of a mental health spiral, Logan used his own experiences to pen lyrics that voice the emotional turmoil, self doubt, and despair that contribute to a sense of loneliness."I hope it can offer comfort and understanding to those who are facing similar challenges. I'll be releasing it on October 11th, just after World Mental Health Day."
While the subject matter, and the track itself, may be dark and brooding, the process behind the song's creation was anything but.
Working once again with Gold Coast songwriter Rosie Jacobson, and adding Brisbane producer and engineer Kris Unwin to the team, the trio found a chemistry and dynamic that saw Logan unconditionally supported, and able to explore the vulnerability of the subject in an environment free from judgement.
"The best part of working on this project was definitely the laughter and good times we shared in the studio," Logan says. "It made the whole experience so much more enjoyable."
Who is Logan Skinner... An alt-pop-rock singer-songwriter from South East Queensland.
I sound like... A modern take on 2007 era Linkin Park ('Minutes To Midnight'), with the edge of Yungblud and rawness of Halsey.
My first gig was... A showcase performance for my uni course. I performed my 2019 single 'Trapped' as well as some other songs with an all-student band.
When did you settle on your artist name, and was it a unanimous decision... I initially was going to go with my first and middle name 'Logan Paul', but after learning that a controversial YouTuber has the same name, I decided to go with my first and last name: Logan Skinner.
In the studio I usually... Collaborate with my team! Working with Rosie Jacobson and Kris Unwin was a joyful experience. The group vocals featured in the last chorus of the song were a lot of fun to record together.
If I could tour with anyone... I would love to tour with Halsey. I admire their artistry so much and I think it would be so sick to tour with them.
Social media is... Strange and draining at times, but it has been crucial in finding my supporters and marketing myself.
My favourite app at the moment is... Notation. I use it to workshop my lyrics and note down any song concepts I come up with.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... When I was in Grade 8 I had to sing for a school assembly and the microphone kept cutting in and out. I just remember the whole cohort laughing at me.
Life on the road can be... I'm excited to find out! I imagine it would be lonely at times, but also such an amazing experience to explore new places and meet the people supporting you.
If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains... Sour Patch Kids because I love Sour Patch Kids.
The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... When I was so deep in a mental health spiral that I completely lost my identity, which is what my new release 'Lost' is all about.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson for you... Connor Franta. He has a way with words that just hits my soul, and I feel it perfectly aligns with my music.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why... I'm a huge fan of Japan, so I think one day it would be nice to reside in Kyoto. It's so beautiful and peaceful.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Halsey, Hayley Williams and Troye Sivan; because it would be incredible to be surrounded by my musical influences/ favourite artists.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Look, I'm a musician for a reason. The best you'd get from me is spag-bol.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? LOVE pets! Big fan of dogs! They make the best companions.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Any kind of botanical gin and tonic.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Last week! Shoutout to my PT, Maddy B Lifts.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Growing up I hated doing the dishes, but now I don’t mind it.
Do you have any phobias... I have arachnophobia. I think it explains itself, spiders are NOT cute!
Would you ever partake in a reality show? I think it would be fun to be on 'The Circle'. I would probably play as a catfish and trick the other players.
Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Either Nandos or Zambrero. Every time I have it I end up falling asleep after an hour.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? Throughout the years I've been told I remind people of Harry Potter. I'd like to believe it's because of Harry's confidence and ease to make new friends, but it's probably the fact I had short brown hair and circular glasses.
Last show you binge-watched? 'Heartstopper'. I binged the entirety of season 3 in one sitting! That show hits all the feels and is such a great representation of healthy queer relationships.
