Introducing Brisbane Band Revoid

Revoid are a metalcore band from Brisbane.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Revoid's 2023 has seen them support Swiss deathcore act AM//PM, with another major support slot on the horizon – joining US metalcore outfit Dayseeker at their Brisbane concert late July.

Earlier in June, the Brisbane metalcore band released their first new single of 2023, the extremely brutal 'Burn With Me' – Revoid's heaviest release to date that straddles the dark and light elements of metalcore.

"'Burn With Me' illustrates the strain, tension, and crushing frustration in the way we are constantly forced to make sacrifices for the people we love, and the breaking point we're pushed to when we can't give anymore," frontman Dale Dudeson says.

"'Burn With Me' is the personification of the disappointment I have in those who I have given everything for, only to have them to bury me like a bad dream."

Dudeson is joined in Revoid by Josh 'Krusty' Gudgeon (guitar), Jack Carey (guitar) and Nick Watson (drums). The band have released a string of singles since their inception in 2019, culminating in their debut EP, 2022's 'Sleepless Still'.

Who is Revoid... We are a four-piece, Brisbane-based band. We've been around since 2019 after forming up with each other from the remnants of other bands.

We sound like... We take inspiration from many of our favourite/ most current bands. A lot of the time we get compared to Polaris, Architects, and Bring Me The Horizon to name a few, but I guess that really depends on personal taste too.

Our first gig... With the first iteration of Revoid was in 2019 where we opened for our friends in Traces from NSW at The Brightside, Brisbane.

When did you settle on the group's name, and was it a unanimous decision? The name Revoid came about after our old drummer got particularly vocal about the need to modernise and change things up.

Our vocalist Dale went down a bit of a rabbit hole after that, and after the shortlist got gradually shorter, we were left with a name that spoke to us as individuals, being something that we could all relate to.

In the studio we usually... Stay very hands-on with the work. We go in with a pretty good idea of what we want to achieve and how we want to go about it, and we find that in our maturity as musicians there's a lot less that needs to be changed or adapted these days, so most of the time can be spent getting good takes or enhancing ideas rather than replacing them.

If we could tour with anyone... Our ideal tour would be with Currents, Noija, and Inertia. We're obviously fans, but ultimately the show would have such a diverse sound and be such a great dynamic.

Social media is... Both the life and death of the music industry. You can't live with it, but in this day and age no band can really live without it.

My favourite app at the moment is... InvoiceToGo. It's the invoicing app we use, and if I'm making an invoice, that means we're getting paid.

To date, our most embarrassing moment was the time... I don't think we usually get embarrassed, but probably the most hilarious incident in our career was when our guitarist Krusty was doing some sick stage moves and spinning around, and flung his wireless pack for his guitar across the stage.

Life on the road can be... Excellent if you plan accordingly. In Australia, there are particularly long stretches of roads between major cities with nothing much going on between them, and that makes for a tiring time driving. Otherwise we usually have a pretty good time out there.

If you'll have us on your bill, all we ask is that our rider contains... Krispy Kreme doughnuts, V and Red Bull energy drinks, VCRs and a place to nap.

The most scary scenario we've found ourselves in, was... Having a tour lined up and finding out that one of our members was unable to attend with about a week's notice. Shoutout to Colby from Headwreck.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... 100 per cent Jack Black. He's the most amazing and versatile person, and as professional and entertaining as they come.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? I think we'd all be fairly sold on living in Queenstown, NZ. Gorgeous place all year 'round, plus the snow slopes are fantastic.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Jack Black, Vin Diesel, Post Malone. Jack Black for obvious reasons. Vin Diesel because we're huge fans of his music career. Posty because he's our age and we think he'd just be a cool dude to hang out with.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Krusty: Thick toast in the AM, thin toast in the PM. Jack: Some sort of pasta dish. Dale: Garlic prawns with coconut rice. Nick: BBQ.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Definitely a lover, but Krusty's allergies to cats can sometimes be a little bit unforgiving.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Jarritos variety pack.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Earlier in 2023, though we definitely have not been as much as we would like.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Dale: Always been a fan of 'Survivor'. I was always very concerned as a child at how lacking the contestants were in critical thinking or any practical/ survival skills, so I'd love to give it a crack and demolish them. Jack: 'The Block'. Always liked interior design and renovations, but it's easier to do it for someone else's house. Krusty: 'Queer Eye', free makeover.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? Dale: I'd put oil on the floor below Krusty's chair. Not so he'd fall over, but so he could not stand up. Hours of laughter to ensue.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? HSP pizza box, but has to be from the good place in the Valley, Brisbane.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? Krusty: Dewy Finn from 'School Of Rock'. Jack: Ned Schneebly from 'School Of Rock'. Dale: Spider from 'School Of Rock'.

Last show you binge-watched? 'Friends'. It's our go-to show whenever we're on tour/interstate for shows. No brain power required.

Revoid support Dayseeker at The Brightside (Brisbane) 28 July.
