Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A member of the Australian Navy by day and a guitar-slinging indie pop, folk singer-songwriter at night, welcome to the musical world of Mitchell Gunner.

Born in Sydney and raised on the Central Coast, Mitchell's newest single is also his first new music of 2020 – 'The Light Of Day', a song he wrote at the start of 2020.

A look at how disasters can negatively impact personal mental health, Mitchell wrote the track to add his own slice of positivity to the mix, to assure others that despite how bad things may seem there is always hope.

"'The Light Of Day' is about knowing that after all the pain there is always something to look forward to, something that will make you happy," Gunner says.

At 24, Mitchell is ready to take on the world with his smooth, motivational and caring lyrics.

Who is Mitchell Gunner... Mitchell Gunner is me; short and simple. I chose to stick to my birth name and I'm proud of carrying the last name Gunner.

I was born in Sydney and raised on the Central Coast. I performed a lot as a kid and early teens then decided to join the Navy at 17; don't let that give you any opinion of me. I'm 24 now and still managing to kick it and have my own fun life writing music and going to gigs.

I sound like... I tend to allow others to make that decision after hearing my music, but I take motivation from Australian artists such as Matt Corby, Ziggy Alberts and plenty more.

My first gig was... Early 2019, besides the performances I did as a kid. I played at a small pub in Fremantle called the Swan Hotel. I highly recommend it for live music. Nonetheless I pulled in to Fremantle with the ship I was posted to, organised this gig and many other sailors attended.

When did you settle on your artist name, and was it a unanimous decision... My mum and dad helped me at birth. But you know I decided to keep the name when starting as it's who I am.

In the studio I usually... Have tonnes of fun. I tend to not take it so seriously, unless I've paid the money to record music. I'm growing as an artist and allowing the freedom to just play around with chord progressions and beats allows me to really continue to develop.

If I could tour with anyone... First instance would be Ziggy Alberts; he knows how to fill a arena. But if I was going to live my best life, I'd say Ruby Fields. That girl knows how to party and having that good rock influence around me, I know it would be special.

Social media is... An amazing way to engage with the world. I'm really investing my time at the moment to creating something that will hopefully make more opportunities for musicians like myself.

My favourite app at the moment is... Until the day I release my own app, my favourite is Instagram.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Without revealing something that could get me fired from work, I'd say every house party I go to. I drink too much and someone will hand me a guitar. I'll play and I'll forget the bloody words and chords to all my songs, haha!

Life on the road can be... Serenity. When you're truly focused, I believe this is where we get the best out of ourselves. I feel us as humans really were made to explore to get the best out of one's self.

If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that our rider contains... I always start my gigs with a shot of whiskey. So hey, have that ready to go. Other than that is I ask to be comfortable. Somewhere to warm up and feel my best vibes.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Haha, well I've almost died a couple times but let's just say that's for another time.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be spokesperson of the band... Liam Gallagher probably. People love him. And we all know what he can do to control an audience.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... I'll just go for anyone here. Let's say Ruby Fields, Liam Gallagher and Elton John. Interesting combination, but I love them all.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? My specialty is anything to do with a BBQ. I'll either do a pork roast or a big beef loin.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Does fireball whiskey come in cases? If not I'll take those fancy Peroni's and I'll shout the case of Corona. Let's party?

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... When I looked in the window.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Getting out of bed in the morning. Or maybe cleaning the bloody drains.

Do you have any phobias? Afraid of not living my life the best way I can I guess.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Yo, put me on 'Big Brother'! One good way to gain publicity and you get to sh.t talk the whole time.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? If I said that I'd ruin the prank wouldn't I. I'll let all my friends stress over who it will be next.
