An indie folk, country singer-songwriter (and author), Australian artist Kada Miller pens songs that empower the mind and inspire others to lead a fulfilling life.
Kada's most recent material has emerged from a journey of self-discovery that has resulted in the Conscious Concert Series, where she visited homes and gardens of communities all over the North Coast of NSW performing intimate showcases. These connections have seen Kada interact with people from all walks of life, and provided a bountiful supply of song ideas.
Kada's newest single is 'Begin Again', a replenishing tale of truth and renewal. "This journey has taken me full circle back to my roots as a singer-songwriter who writes and sings from the heart, and shares from my soul to yours," Kada says.
Who is... I am Kada Miller. A singer-songwriter, a published author ('The Essence Of You And Me') and a star subject of feature documentary 'You And Me'.
I grew up in the country, now live on the coast and I am currently travelling Australia with my husband, Barney, and two bulldogs, Byrdie and Bowie, in our Mercedes Sprinter 4WD campervan named Bruce Sprintersteen.
I sound like... A little blend of folk, country, indie, acoustic and island soul.
My first gig was... The Brass Monkey in Cronulla supporting Thirsty Merc back in 2010.
When did you settle on your artistic name, and was it a unanimous decision... My name Kada is just a nickname from my real name Kathryn. Its meaning is unknown, which is the perfect reminder to take the roads less travelled and trust my own intuition.
In the studio I usually... Wear a vintage band t-shirt to inspire good vibes.
If I could tour with anyone... Matt Corby.
Social media is... Distracting.
My favourite app at the moment is... Pinterest. I love to create boards for everything whether a photoshoot, hair, interior, holidays. I get trapped down that vortex way too easily.
To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Trying to get into a car that was not mine and calling the car roadside assistance only to realise mine was a few cars up. Haha!
Life on the road can be... Whatever you want it to be. I am so grateful to live this life and even more grateful to share it with others.
If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that the rider contains... Herbal tea, fresh lemon and Manuka honey.
The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Being held in secondary at LAX and questioned for hours about my purpose of being in America for six months a year.
Long story short: my husband, then boyfriend, was doing spinal rehabilitation over there and they were trying to make sure I wasn't illegally working, which thankfully I was not. Only recording and open-mic nights, which I was fortunate to continue living that life for another ten years.
What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be your spokesperson... Julianne Hough seems like a powerhouse of good energy.
If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? Any of the beach towns in Southern California. I lived in Carlsbad, California for three, six months a year for ten years and it has become second home. I love how it's out of the hustle, but easy access when you need it.
Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Jim Carrey for laughs and life chats; Jada Pinkett Smith for soulful conversation; Paul McCartney for wisdom and a jam sesh.
If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Tacos.
When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? The biggest lover! My two girls, Byrdie and Bowie, eat better than most humans. They have an extremely privileged life, haha!
I'm also known to have saved many creatures that find their way into our home or along our path. Birds, bees, blue-tongue lizards, little lizards, goannas, spiders, tortoises, dogs. I have gently helped guide them all to a safer space over the years.
No matter the expense, send me a case of... Hilbilby Firetonic – the best health remedy. We have it in bulk and and make sure we take it everywhere with us.
The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... A month ago before we left on our trip around Australia, but I have been doing Zoom sessions with my trainer. Plus living the van life has become my new everyday gym.
What's the one chore you dislike the most? Being around rude people.
Do you have any phobias... Wild mice and rats. We had both in our home growing up and they just creep me out.
Would you ever partake in a reality show? Well, my husband and I have a feature documentary about us and currently shooting a lifestyle YouTube series; does that count?
If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I'm terrible at pranks. I'm usually the one who is being pranked.
Best local takeaway joint for a 2am feed that will leave you with a food coma? Haha, I don't even know what 2am means anymore but always a sucker for hot chips with chicken salt and gravy.
Which fictional character best describes your personality? A blend of Mulan and Moana. I am half Tongan and I do combat training. My alter ego at training is Milana (last name Miller): big heart, love my family and community, break into song at any moment like the movie haha, and a little touch of bad-ass when I need her.
Last show you binge-watched? 'Lucifer' – the whole concept of the show is genius. It's got humour, mystery and love; what's not to obsess over?
