Introducing Adelaide Singer-Songwriter Lizzie Hosking

Lizzie Hosking is a R&B, pop artist from Adelaide.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A SAM Award nominee, Adelaide R&B-pop singer-songwriter Lizzie Hosking builds on a busy 2021 (including releasing her debut EP 'Lady Snake') with the the release of her first single of 2022, 'YOU'.

A song about unreciprocated affection in a relationship, Lizzie wrote, performed and recorded 'You' in her home studio, with mixing from Michael Perkins.

"'YOU' is about being really invested in your partner, you love everything about them EXCEPT the confusion and mixed signals they put you through," Lizzie says.

With work continuing on her debut album (that should be released soon), Lizzie injects her music with themes of self confidence and self love, creating songs she hopes inspires others struggling with similar circumstances.

Who is Lizzie Hosking... A 22 year old, singer-songwriter from Adelaide writing and recording original R&B/ pop tunes.

I sound like... A mix between Billie Eilish and Victoria Monet with the vocal style of Adele and Amy Winehouse.

My first gig was... At The Wheatsheaf in Adelaide; it was a very wholesome night with a great crowd and an amazing warm-up act from Ember Ally.

When did you settle on your artistic name, and was it a unanimous decision... My real name is Elizabeth, but something feels a bit too formal or pretentious about that. So Lizzie seemed to work the best.

In the studio I usually... Have such a good time. Normally it's me and my producer/ musician/ engineer extraordinaire, coming up with fun ideas and laying down harmony after harmony. We have spent upwards of eight hours just in the studio layering harmonies and experimenting with new sounds.

If I could tour with anyone... In the world it would be Ariana Grande, nothing matches her vocal power and amazing pop tunes.

Social media is... A super power for getting your music out there, but on the flip, sooo damaging for your mental health if you can't get a handle on it.

My favourite app at the moment is... TikTok. Mindlessly swiping for hours is so bad but also so good at the same time. It's an unhealthy addiction.

To date, my most embarrassing moment was the time... Almost had a serious wardrobe malfunction on stage; luckily my band mates are much more attentive than I am and saved me before the show got M rated.

Life on the road can be... A dream for some people. I think it would be so much fun travelling to new places and meeting new people and experiencing new things. But I would miss home and my dog if I couldn't bring her along.

If you'll have me on your bill, all I ask is that the rider contains... Someone who can laugh along with us.

The most scary scenario I've found myself in, was... Eek, nearly losing two band mates weeks before the show to COVID. They pulled through but we were so worried about them and the show.

What celebrity/ famous person would you love to be your spokesperson... I feel like Tom Hanks would be the best hype man.

If you had to live in a city abroad, where would you choose and why? I would live in New York; there is so much happening in that city, I would never be bored.

Three people you'd like to invite around for a dinner party... Lizzo, Adele and Beyoncé will always be inspirations of mine and I would make them sing a four-part harmony with me and I'd cry.

If we were coming over to your place, what would you cook us? Ooft, we're either doing a sushi night or my signature pasta. I am a vegan so prepare to have your world changed.

When it comes to pets are you a lover or hater of our furry friends? Lover! I could never hate a furry friend. I'm allergic to most furry friends, but that'll never stop me from a cuddle.

No matter the expense, send me a case of... Your girliest sweetest moscato, then me and my girls are happy and heading straight to the clubs.

The last time I saw the inside of a gym was... Yesterday. I'm way too competitive and I attempt to out-lift everyone, which is 9/10 times embarrassing for me but I live for the 1/10.

What's the one chore you dislike the most? Dishes, ew.

Do you have any phobias... I have an intense phobia of the ocean, I don't know why it's just terrifying to me. In saying that, I was also a swimming teacher, swimmer; I've gone snorkelling and I love dolphin watching. But not without great difficulty sometimes.

Would you ever partake in a reality show? Heck yes. I live for a good, trashy reality TV show. I would love a 'Big Brother' moment or if someone wants to film a show about me and my family I promise we are hilarious. That would be awesome.

If you could prank any of your friends, who's your target, and how are you bringing them down? I'm taking my sister down, she has scared me one too many times and I think it's time. I'm thinking clown costume, dead of night sort of prank. Evil stuff.

Best local takeaway joint for a midnight feed that will leave you with a food coma? Look as soon as Maccas bring in a vegan burger I'm done for it. However, Hungry Jacks is where it's at – Rebel Whopper all the way. Pity they are so far from me though.

Which fictional character best describes your personality? I just did a Buzzfeed quiz and it came back as The Fresh Prince of Belair; do with that what you will. But I think Olaf from 'Frozen'.

Last show you binge-watched (and what kept you glued to the screen)? I binged 'Euphoria' the other day and I think it's truely Zendaya that keeps me glued to the screen. Obsessed.
