Jamie Hutchings’ (Bluebottle Kiss) latest project, Infinity Broke, will be celebrating their debut album release with a full tour of the east coast.
“The album [‘River Mirrors’] is sort of hypnotic and intense,” Jamie says. ‘River Mirrors’ was released last month and has been greeted with positive reviews. “It's gratifying to get that feedback from people that are willing to invest in it. It's great to read positive things about something you put a whole bunch of effort into. It can really make your day to have that kind of response. It makes a big difference to all of us, it's encouraging to know that it's having an effect on people.”
Hutchings is looking forward to touring the east coast later this month and enjoys the flexibility the shows offer Infinity Broke. “I like the freedom [of life on the road]... Getting into that zone where anything can happen musically ... being able to really stretch out and take things into unknown territory is the part of this group that I enjoy the most.
“We’ve got one drum kit that's made from bits of drums but also more industrial percussion like gas tanks, so the band is basically like two drummers. They don’t just play the same thing together the whole time. There's really counter rhythms, so it's really hypnotic, almost like a lot of music you hear in Asia… their approach to percussion where it's not just a straight drum kit playing a beat. The guitar and bass are pretty primal, kind of experimental rock. As a live band I reckon it's pretty compelling, especially the longer songs, [especially] if you like getting into music. It gets really hypnotic without it getting synthesized or [sounding like] dance music.”
While the group are in the middle of promoting their first album, Jamie reveals Infinity Broke won’t be slowing down anytime soon. “We've got another record on the books as well but we've just got to do artwork and master and stuff like that.”
