Indigenous Artist Marlon Showcases His Debut Single 'Blood In The Water' At 2024 Adelaide Fringe

Marlon is an indigenous rapper-singer whose debut single is titled 'Blood In The Water'.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

An indigenous musician-singer-rapper, Marlon will showcase his debut single 'Blood In The Water' when he takes to the Adelaide Fringe stage this weekend.

The Aboriginal Larrakia-Thursday Island artist has gathered a stack of experience the last decade or so (after an AFL career with Port Adelaide Power, 2008-2011), gaining support slots with Midnight Oil, A.B. Original, Pete Murray and Xavier Rudd alongside festival appearances at WOMADelaide, Bass In The Grass, Party In The Paddock, Dark Mofo, and Spin Off Festival.

Marlon joined A.B. Original as part of their touring crew when they supported Hilltop Hoods in 2022 and also featured as a guest on A.B. Original's 2023 song 'Yes'.

Marlon has also released the singles 'Unceded' (2022) and 'Trauma Patient' (2023) as part of his collaboration with Rulla, as well as guesting on BLKMPIRE's 'Black Swan' (2021).

'Blood In The Water' is a song written reflecting the reality Marlon sees in Australian society when it comes to the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

"'Blood In The Water' is the title of my debut single dropping very soon; [it] talks to harsh realities of Aboriginal Australia which continue transpire not only back home in my community, but all across this beautiful country of ours.

"This will be a exclusive showcase of not only my first solo single, but an entire project which I have been working on for the best part of 12 months with help of Trials.

"Come join us in Gluttony Fringe's Octagon and take a look inside the life of black people and celebrate were we've come from, and where we're going as a country and a community."

To be joined by special guests Bad//Dreems (who'll belt out a few songs and 'sip chardonnay') at The Octagon @ Gluttony Fringe on 17 February, here Marlon shares his three favourite Adelaide live music venues.

Thebarton Theatre

Historic venue where I've watched Ocean Alley, Six60, and went on to open for Xavier Rudd at Thebarton Theatre. I drove past it and always dreamt of playing there. Now I can say I've done it.

Adelaide Entertainment Centre

I remember watching Ed Sheeran perform here in 2015, and for his whole set I couldn't help but feel envious and motivated to one day play my own show there. I have since performed with A.B. Original and opened for Pete Murray in this venue, which is crazy to think. I have driven past AEC everyday for the last ten years looking at the signage visualising my name on it. Soon come.

The Gov

Supporting Paul Kelly and Troy Casser-Daly with Trials was one of my favourite shows ever. I used to rock up to open mic nights at The Gov trying to get my chops in performing with my guitar. I love The Gov.
