In Tune With RTRFM 92.1: Perth Community Radio Station’s May 2019 News

Throughout the month of May, RTRFM is calling on its listeners and supporters to donate and show their love for the station during Radio Love Month.

RTRFM is a not-for-profit independent radio station, which is funded by a community of listeners through subscriptions and donations. This is a chance for people to show their love and allow us to continue producing high-quality music and talks programming across the 48 shows that we broadcast 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Throughout Radio Love Month, we’re asking 1,000 listeners to donate any amount they can, whether that be $5, $42 or even $92. If you love the music and ideas you hear, and you love the fact that independent community radio exists, show us some love this May by donating at rtrfm.com.au.
RTRFM is a registered charity, which means you can claim a tax deduction on any donation you make before the upcoming end of financial year.

This month, we have two events happening around town. First off, Many Styles returns to Si Paradiso in Highgate on Saturday 4 May. We had such a good time last November at Many Styles that we’re bringing back our all day and night dance party and showcasing a killer line-up of some of Perth’s finest crews and DJs.

Finish off the summer with us and all your mates with a special celebration of ten years of Bass Check, RTRFM’s deep bass heavy show on Friday nights.

And later in the month, we head down to Fremantle’s newest, oldest venue Freo.Social for a special celebration of our Sunday programming on a Saturday afternoon and night with RTRFM and Sunday Morning Coming Down presents Golden Days on Saturday 18 May. Join us for a Sunday on a Saturday as we celebrate nearly 40 years of one of RTRFM’s most-loved shows as well as the shows that surround it on a Sunday morning. Celebrate with us so you need them the next morning.

RTRFM DJs Kailyn and Matt share five of their favourite tunes they plan to 'drop' at Many Styles.

Roza Terenzi - 'Freak N Tweak' (Kailyn and Matt)

Perth-born and Melbourne-based producer Roza Terenzi is one of underground dance music’s most rapidly rising stars, something evident on this beautiful slice of electronica. I love the way this track blends ambient bliss with raw electro percussion – a great track to ease dancers into things while still showing you mean business.

Tirzah - 'Inside Out' (Kailyn)

Tirzah put this out back in 2013, but I only recently came across it and have been listening to it on repeat for weeks now. I can’t get over how groovy the synth lines are on this track and her vocals match perfectly. I can’t wait to drop it at Many Styles.

Octo Octa - 'Loops For Healing' (Kailyn)

This one came out recently on Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint and the whole EP is a really great release, it was hard to choose just one track. This one in particular is pretty downtempo, but I think it will set the mood for the afternoon nicely; we’re playing at 6pm, so the sun will be setting and the mood will be just right.

PT MC - 'Officewerks' (Matt)

I couldn’t call myself a RTRFM DJ without showing a bit of local love, and choosing this track by the beautiful PT MC is one of the best ways I can think of doing so. Released on the Berlin-based Oscillate Tracks label, the low end, heavy drum workout it provides sees bass-weight missiles bouncing off skittering percussion in a way that’ll get anyone’s blood pumping, head spinning and feet moving.

FSOM - 'Resist The Beat' (Matt)

A classic of Melbourne’s underground dance scene in the '90s, 'Resist The Beat' is a track I’ve rinsed ever since I found it. Made up of three distinct sections that take the listener on a euphoric journey, the track sees slinky basslines mingle with hi-NRG breakbeats and heavenly piano lines, embodying a time when the dance music community united with juggernaut stamina, partying beyond the long arm of the law.
