In Tune With RTRFM 92.1: Perth Community Radio Station's December 2017 News

RTRFM's The Whipcracker selects her top 5 tunes to get the party started.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Happy New Year! Here at The Sound Alternative, 2018 will see our 25th In The Pines event, the local music day of days.

We also have the return of Distant Murmurs across three stages at Rosemount Hotel on 27 January, free live music at Harbour Sundays at the Fremantle Maritime Museum during February, and plenty more events and surprises planned throughout year.

We’re excited about bringing you another year of quality, innovative and challenging broadcasting, discovering a whole year’s worth of new music, welcoming new volunteers and celebrating our community.

RTRFM’s lil’ mixtape vibe: The Whipcracker’s top 5 tracks to get a dancefloor pumping.

The Whipcracker has been an integral part of the RTRFM family, volunteering in the office twice a week for over 15 years.

True to her name, she rules the CD library and makes sure the staff stay on task! In what’s become an annual tradition, she’ll be taking to the decks to share her love of dance music at RTRFM’s Distant Murmurs at Rosemount Hotel on 27 January.

These are The Whipcracker’s top 5 tunes to get the party started.

Ashley Beedle and The Black Science Orchestra - 'Start The Dancer'

This is a must for me to play. It’s a great introduction to get onto the dancefloor. I always dedicate this to RTRFM’s amazing DJs: past, present and onwards.

Ashley Beedle and The Black Science Orchestra - 'St Marks Square'

Another cracker from the above producers. Melodious, harmonising vocals that get me swaying to its upbeat, breezy tune.

Lee McDonald - 'I’ll Do Anything For You'

It is with this groovy track I honour my years with RTRFM. Although my attitude can be more ‘Bolshe’ these days, I can still be seen emptying the bin or sweeping the floor; guess “I’m just a fool for your (RTR) loving!”, as the RTRFM beat goes on.

Blaze feat. Mr V – 'Breathe (Mr V’s Soul Channel Mix)'

This combines for me the spiritual vocals of Blaze and the sound that is Louie Vega. With lyrics: “lifting my heart up to the sky” and “breath new life”, I can always dance to such words.

Dom Navarra feat. Antonino Navarra – 'A Thousand Words (H&H Soul Survivors Mix)'

With soulful lyrics: “If rainbows fall from sky” and “I can soar”, a thousand words cannot convey, for me, what RTRFM has meant to me over what is now almost 19 years of being a listener and volunteer.

Keep an eye out for next month’s scenestr WA print edition as RTRFM reveal their most-played tracks of 2017.
