As we make our way into April, we’re getting ready for our iconic local music festival In The Pines at our home away from home – UWA Somerville Auditorium.
Come and celebrate with us on Sunday 14 April as we bring you the 26th In The Pines with ten hours of local music against a stunning background.
Over the past two weeks we’ve announced a stellar line-up of acts that will bring their talent and tunes to the stage, including Carla Geneve, Cold Meat, Didion’s Bible, Downsyde, Flanders, Gazey, Gemma Farrell Quintet, Grace Barbe, Hexx, Jack Davies & The Bush Chooks, Last/Tuneless, The Little Lord Street Band, Mt Mountain, Natasha Eldridge, Noah Dillon, Pat Chow, Salary, Yomi Ship and Zerodent.
The astute out there will notice there are only 19 bands on this line-up… which means we've got one more, top-secret act to come. Keep your eyes peeled the next few weeks to find out who else we've got in store for In The Pines 2019. To join all the fun, make sure you’ve got your tickets available now from the RTRFM website.
Our Music Assistant Warwick has listed five must-see acts at this year’s In The Pines.
Last/Tuneless
Originally formed in Perth by Fabian Rojas, who has since moved back to Peru, Last/Tuneless makes a return to Perth for In The Pines. Last/Tuneless create dark and expansive music informed by Rojas’s Chilean heritage. Expect to hear long-form jam sessions on stage reminiscent of early Krautrock performances.
Mt Mountain
Perth psychedelic-rock stalwarts Mt Mountain are fresh off their seventh release ‘Golden Rise’. Mt Mountain have built a reputation as one of the most compelling live acts in Perth. Their style of psychedelic blended with garage-rock and space-rock form big soundscapes that captivate and overwhelm at the same time.
Cold Meat
Punk outfit Cold Meat have been one of Perth’s premier punk bands since their debut in 2016. Cold Meat will be bringing their unique brand of feminist punk, which takes cues from somewhere in between Electric Eels and the Nixe as well as contemporary London punk. Expect to hear them in full force presenting signature punk stage energy.
Carla Geneve
One of Perth’s biggest emerging artists, Carla Geneve has already quite a rap sheet having supported the likes of Cat Power, Jen Cloher and Stella Donnelly, and will now be playing In The Pines before the band heads out on tour in America. Drawing on traditional folk influences, Geneve takes traditional songwriting structures and storytelling and puts them through a filter of garage rock and grunge. Expect to hear relatable, noisy rock songs that will impress.
Grace Barbe
If you like dancing (and let’s be real, who doesn’t), you’ll LOVE Grace Barbe’s Afro-Creole rhythms, which are sure to reverberate straight through your feet and into your heart. Fusing tropical rhythms with psychedelic rock, Afrobeat, reggae and pop, I defy you not to be moved in every sense of the word.
