Kate Foxx has been announced as one of the musical acts to perform at the Gold Coast 600 (V8 Supercars event) in October.
The show is just one in a string of events that Kate is set to play before the end of the year. The performer is a musician first and foremost. “I've always been into music as a musician. My dad is a musician,” Kate says.
“I used to sit on the bus listening to music and I'd think that the song would sound awesome with another song. I didn't really realise at the time what mixing was. I would just imagine them together.
“Where I went to high school had a count of 300 people, so no one went out and no one knew what house music was. It was like a farm town basically. That's when I really started realising that's what I wanted to do. I've always been into music and singing so that's where I have directed my focus more rather than production.”
The past two years have been busy for Kate. Spending large amounts of time away from her Melbourne home has been something she has had to adjust to quickly. “I'm pretty good at spending time on my own,” Kate says.
“It was hard at first, but I really enjoy it now. I try to make the most of it. If I get enough time somewhere I’ll go exploring or see what's on. I feel like I have adjusted quite well actually. It is very surreal. Sometimes I’ll be talking to people and I'll explain how it all works and I’ll realise how crazy it is and how lucky I am. You can sometimes forget that it's not so normal.”
Kate will have a chance to return to the Gold Coast in October for the V8 Supercars event. “I used to live there for three years. So I know all about that party vibe. I love the atmosphere and the holiday mode that is consistent there. Everyone is just there to have fun. Obviously the weather there is beautiful, and the event brings such a different crowd too.”
The artist is naturally accustomed to the social aspect of being a performer. “I can't help myself. I just want to hang out with people,” Kate says.
She is also an avid social media user. “If it wasn't for [the fans] I wouldn't have this. I wouldn't have what I have now. I love getting involved in that sort of way, and getting involved with people on there. I really enjoy seeing different ways to interact with people. It's awesome.”
Kate hopes to bring authenticity and honesty to her fans in her performances. “I feel people know what's real and what's not. Once you start giving 100 per cent, you're right into it. I feel if someone is not enjoying something, you can see it, and you can tell. Authenticity is really important, and that is what I look for. Once you've got that, you pretty much know you are going to have a great performance.”
