Stalwart rockers Hoodoo Gurus will headline a charity night this September raising funds for the critical work Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital undertakes looking after Australian native animals.
Dubbed Wild Aid, the benefit concert (to be staged at Byron Bay's The Green Room on 27 September) will see the 'What's My Scene' and 'Bittersweet' icons joined by American-Australian singer-songwriter and Grammy Award-nominated Toni Childs ('Stop Your Fussin'', 'I've Got To Go Now').Yolngu surf rockers King Stingray, the 2022 Michael Gudinski Breakthrough Artist winners at the ARIA Awards and 2022 Australian Music Prize winners who next month tour the United States, and Brisbane-based favourites The Honey Sliders, known for their high-energy live shows and heartfelt tributes to classic albums, round out the line-up.
"We're thrilled to be part of something so meaningful," Dave Faulkner, frontman of Hoodoo Gurus, says. "Byron Bay is a place we love, and this concert gives us the chance to give back in a big way to help protect our incredible wildlife."
The event will raise awareness as well as funds for the Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital, which provides lifesaving veterinary care for sick, injured and orphaned native animals.
"Native animals face peril every day from habitat loss, pollution, road trauma, feral pests and introduced disease," Byron Bay Wildlife Hospital Founder and CEO Dr. Stephen Van Mil says.
"We are truly honoured to have the Hoodoo Gurus, Toni Childs, King Stingray and The Honey Sliders donate their talents to support our life-saving work for native animals."
All proceeds from the event will directly support expert veterinary treatment, care and long-term rehabilitation of native birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians, including threatened species. The one-night-only event promises a spirited atmosphere filled with live music, community goodwill and conservation awareness.
