Iconic Australian rockers Hoodoo Gurus have officially embraced their age, experience and wisdom by celebrating 31 years of doing what they love.

Curated by the Hoodoo Gurus last year, the Dig It Up! concert in Melbourne celebrated the legendary band’s 30 years in music where they performed their debut album Stoneage Romeos in its entirety. After receiving positive feedback from the show, the Gurus are now gearing up to return to the stage for the highly anticipated sequel.

“It went incredibly well last year, there was a lot of good will about the show as it lived up to the hype,” lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Dave Faulkner explains.

“That’s why we decided to continue with Dig It Up! 2013. We want to match our efforts last year and we’ve been lucky to get all these incredible acts to agree to come along for it including The Flamin’ Groovies and Blue Oyster Cult. Plus we will be playing one of our landmark albums.”

In Dig It Up! tradition, the Hoodoo Gurus will be performing a full work, their equally impressive second album Mars Needs Guitars. As much as he loves making music on stage, Dave admits that he’s really looking forward to checking out the support bands.

“It becomes such a marathon day for us because we like to get there early and watch the other bands but at the same time need to save our energy for our own performance. If Hoodoo Gurus had their way, we’d be the first band on the bill every concert then chill out, have a few drinks and watch for the rest of the night.”

The Aussie rock veteran continues to share his three decades of industry experience not only on stage, but as a judge for the Australian Music Prize, which was most recently awarded to hip hop duo Hermitude.

“I get to hear a lot of what’s going on throughout Australia. There’s an endless quest to find the real thing in the Australian music scene. It’s like digging for diamonds but you got to go through a lot of coal first, but there is great, new and diverse music to discover and it’s all the more worth it when you find it.”
