Hometown Festival, the event set to bring the country to Brisbane's big smoke, has been cancelled.
The organisers have cited "lack of support" and "unforeseen circumstances" behind the decision.
The cancellation happened in two stages. On Friday, the event's Facebook Page advised, "It is with great regret that we inform you that the free stages at Hometown Fest 2019 have been cancelled. The music, arts and culture festival that was scheduled to debut next week has sadly experienced a lack of support and unforeseen circumstances have led to this heart-breaking decision.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the talented artists, vendors and most of all, those who did register for tickets. "
At that stage it was hoped the performances could be salvaged with the sourcing of a new venue following the realisation the Brisbane Showgrounds was too large to support the sales.
"We are still investigating options for hosting our Visitors Arena for those who did purchase tickets and will update you with information as it becomes available."
Yesterday the organisers confirmed they had been unsuccessful in sourcing a new venue and that all performances had been cancelled. "Sadly we have been unable to successfully source an alternate venue for the Hometown Fest Visitors Arena and it has now been cancelled.
All tickets will be fully refunded, all ticket holders will receive notification from Ticketek directly regarding this. Please contact them directly with any queries.
Our sincerest apologies that this has occurred, we would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and all of our followers for their ongoing support."
The event promised a mix of premium music, arts and culture festival featuring 50 local and international acts over two days. The full line-up can be seen here.
Comments on social media suggest poor promotion and lack of advertising as a significant factor in poor ticket sales.
