Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Now entering its third instalment, Brisbane Powerhouse's annual ΩHM Festival of Other Music is serving up a programme of genre-defying artists from across the globe.

With each artist/ group dedicated to exploring the 'fringes of sound and performance', the ΩHM 2025 line-up – which takes over the Powerhouse with eight events next March – is led by Grammy-nominated folk supergroup Bonny Light Horseman.

The trio of Anais Mitchell (American solo singer-songwriter), Eric D. Johnson (Fruit Bats, The Shins) and Josh Kaufman (Muzz, Taylor Swift, The Hold Steady) first came together after Eaux Claires festival co-founders Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and Aaron Dessner (The National) invited the trio to the festival in 2018.

They've subsequently released three albums with their 2020 self-titled record nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Folk Album. Released in June this year, their newest record is the 20-song 'Keep Me On Your Mind/See You Free'.

"Ok we're just gonna come out and tell ya that our new double LP is out. We are grateful, psyched, and bursting to share this music with you. Thank you to everyone who made it possible to make it: our partners (business + romantic), our friends + families, especially the O'Leary Family at Levi's Ballydehob in West Cork where we recorded many of the songs, and all of you who listen."

Alternative rock, baroque pop cabaret star, Irish performer Camille O'Sullivan will bring her dramatic musical style to ΩHM Festival. The Edinburgh Festival Fringe favourite is known for delivering a spellbinding performance, weaving covers and stories from artists like Nick Cave, Leonard Cohen, Bowie and Radiohead.

Direct from Agadez, Niger, Etran de L'Air will offer an electrifying blend of their raw, reverb-drenched desert rock sound that has seen them release three albums: 'No. 1' in 2018, 'Agadez' in 2022, and '100% Sahara Guitar' in 2024. Amanda Petrusich of The New Yorker declared 'No. 1' the publications #1 album of 2018.

After gaining worldwide cult status after appearing in Quentin Tarantino's 'Kill Bill' performing a trio of songs in the Tokyo club The House Of Blue Leaves, The 5.6.7.8's garage punk, surf rock stylings and high-energy performances have seen them tour the world for almost 40 years.

There are also a number of Australian additions to the bill, including Indigenous surf-rock blues rockers King Stingray, the Northeast Arnhem Land band blending English and Yolŋu Matha for an irresistible sound, highlighted by such cuts as 'Milkumana', 'Get Me Out' and 'Let's Go'.

Queensland's Chamber Orchestra Camerata presents Interludes – Music for Meditation, a 60-minute concert-meditation experience in the round, where audience members are invited to BYO yoga mats and immerse themselves in a tranquil journey through Beethoven, Max Richter, and beyond.

Sound-Space Silent Disco blends sound and community creativity creating an immersive event explores the dynamic spectrum of sound and music where attendees can also participate in a community-created soundscape workshop on the platform.

Finally local jazz talent Toby Wren leads a hauntingly beautiful exploration of love and loss inspired by 18th-century shipwreck paintings with the live performance of his album, 'Songs For Dead Sailors'.
