Hiatus Kaiyote Will Perform Their Biggest Show Yet As A Special One-Off Home Town Concert In Melbourne

Hiatus Kaiyote with The Dreamboat Orchestra play Hamer Hall (Melbourne) 23 February, 2024.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Multiple Grammy-nominated act, Hiatus Kaiyote will showcase their 'new sonic territory' when they perform a special home-town show in Melbourne early 2024.

The quartet of Naomi 'Nai Palm' Saalfield (guitar, vocals), Paul Bender (bass), Simon Mavin (keys), and Perrin Moss (drums), Hiatus Kaiyote will be joined by The Dreamboat Orchestra for the one-night-only event at Hamer Hall.

With orchestral arrangements provided by Miguel Atwood Ferguson (the Brainfeeder composer who wrote the cult classic J Dilla score 'Suite For Ma Dukes') and the Brazilian legend Arthur Verocai (who gained a cult following in the UK-US during the 2000s when his 1972 self-titled debut album was sampled by a number of hip hop artists including the late MF Doom), the concert will not be repeated with the set list to feature material across all three Hiatus Kaiyote records as well as some unreleased songs.

"After orchestra shows at Hollywood Bowl and Sydney Opera House we're thrilled to bring them to our home town," shares Hiatus Kaiyote.

"It will be a dream to perform these stunning arrangements in the Hamer Hall, we can't wait to share this experience with you."

Hiatus Kaiyote broke internationally in 2012 with their first LP, 'Tawk Tomahawk', which was praised by simpatico musical travellers from Erykah Badu to Questlove to Prince.

Their first Grammy nomination, for their song 'Nakamarra', was followed by a second for 'Breathing Underwater', from their sophomore album, 2015's 'Choose Your Weapon'.

Such hip hop luminaries as Beyonce, Jay Z, Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, Chance The Rapper, and Drake – with whom Nai Palm collaborated on his 'Scorpion' album – have sampled Hiatus Kaiyote.

In 2021 Hiatus Kaiyote returned with their first new album in over five years, 'Mood Valiant', that was released on Brainfeeder Records/ Ninja Tune and garnered the group their third Grammy nomination.

Tickets on sale from 1pm EDT on 26 October.
