Dystopian future-rock group Hey Geronimo have got big things on the horizon for 2017. Winning a Queensland Music award for their clip for 'Boredom' is only the beginning of the exciting things happening for the band this year.
Following their 2016 album 'Crashing Into The Sun' they spent the summer working on their forthcoming second album, from which their first single 'Mutant' has recently been released. The song is a true account of the two times lead singer Pete Kilroy met Courtney Barnett.
Pete talks about the situation of wanting to impress someone you're meeting for the first time and coming across as less than awesome, with lyrics about his encounter with Barnett like “you're so sweet to all the groupies, tried to get a selfie, couldn't work my phone...”
Talking about the experience, Pete says “I think turning into a ‘mutant’ around somebody you like is a phenomenon every single person over the legal drinking age has experienced. Not all of us have experienced it with Courtney Barnett (and for the record I am still pretty embarrassed) but it does make for a great story.”
The upcoming tour will see them play shows up part of the east coast, hitting venues in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The tour promises to be a shift from their usual style, encompassing projected visuals and a shift in performance, focusing on a quasi-futuristic aesthetic.
With limited shows and no other confirmed tour dates as of yet, it's well worth booking your tickets in advance so you don't miss what is shaping up to be an energetic and interesting round of shows.
