Head North This Winter: North Queensland Festival Circuit

Bush Week

Most people see winter as a time of hibernation. A time to recap, relax and prepare for the next summer.

Contrary to popular belief, however, there are a few, incredible events from central to northern Queensland set to warm crowds in every sense of the word, making winter feel like a distant landscape. These include: Happy Daze, Kuranda Roots Festival, Bush Week and The 24th Psycle.

Happy Daze

Kicking things off is Happy Daze, running from the 29-31 May. Situated in Central Queensland between Airlie Beach and Mackay, this gem is a tropical paradise for bass and all kinds of music from across the board featuring: Tijuana Cartel, K+Lab, Hugo & Treats, Dusty Fungus, The Mollusk, Ryanosaurus and much more.

There are many sights to behold, including highly regarded visionary artist Adam Scott Miller. With great food and workshops, and an environment that is safe and entertaining for the whole family, this festival is the perfect way to wave goodbye to autumn.

The 24th Psycle

Only one weekend later (6 June) is The 24th Psycle. Situated further up north, outside of Cairns, this party is perfect for anyone who wants to get their stomp on.

With a driving range of styles including psychedelic techno, prog, psytrance and more, the headlining acts feature: Rinkadink, Timeframe, Knarrl, Birrang Mil and Pacman, with more announcements to come soon.

Kuranda Roots Festival

Next up is Kuranda Roots Festival, running from 12-13 June. With a stronger focus on dub, reggae, roots and other live music, this festival will also cover the ground of tasty electronica.

The line-up so far includes the eight-piece ragga spectacle Bullhorn, plus Chris Tamwoy, 420 Soundsystem and the Skankstarz, Progressive Tan and Rudekat Sound. All this in a lush outdoor setting in Kuranda, far-north Queensland.

Bush Week

A fortnight later and you have Bush Week, running 22-28 June. Situated in Rossville, 300km north of Cairns, Bush Week offers a unique approach to the festival model. It encourages all punters to be involved in the community in one way or another; everyone gets a chance to contribute and watch this collective project grow.

The music will maintain an eclectic nature and punters can expect everything from reggae to hip hop to squelchy glitch and driving, psychedelic rhythms. If you crave the opportunity to be part of a different society for a week – here's your chance.

So rather than hiding indoors and becoming a hermit this winter, why not hit the road for a off month? At this time of year there's no better way to explore some of the most beautiful spots the Australian bush has to offer while hearing a diverse range of talented musicians, producers and DJs.
