Husband and wife team Hat Fitz And Cara are sharing as many experiences as they can.
“It's pretty crazy. When you're a solo act and you're travelling the world, you want to share it with someone,” Cara says. “You see something and you want to share it with a best friend, a lover, a partner. To have someone to share all of those experiences with is pretty incredible. However, the pair of us are not really good in airports, we go the wrong way and just generally find airports very daunting, they just make it so hard.”
Cara is originally an Irish musician who met Fitzy (Hat Fitz) while he was on tour, but since the marriage she has grown to accept Australia as her home. “Last year we did a very short run in Europe, it was just a little over two weeks. On the way back to Australia, for the first time I felt like I was coming home.
“I do miss my family and when we go back home on tour I take a week off to spend with my family. Whenever we're flying over or landing into Ireland I get a wee knot in my belly. But now when we come home to Australia it does feel like home.”
However, life isn’t always sunshine and rainbows for Hat Fitz And Cara. “Our work is very intense. There are moments when you feel like you need time out from each other, but I think everyone has that, moments when you have ego clashes or difference of opinions.
“But for the long haul and for what we do it's pretty incredible, we're pretty lucky. I can't believe I've found someone so incredibly talented and dedicated to his music as I am. It's so inspiring really and for me there is no one else out there that I could share this with.”
Cara’s mother did warn her about the eventful life she would have if she married Fitzy. “My mother said to me, ‘you know what? If you marry this man, darling, you will never have a dull moment’.”
Hat Fitz And Cara headline the Solbar Stage at the Big Pineapple Music Festival Saturday May 17. They also will appear at the Gympie Music Muster August 28-31.
