L-R top top to bottom: Ball Park Music, The Temper Trap, The Waifs, Lime Cordiale
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

South Australian regional boutique music event, Handpicked Festival returns after a three-year hiatus caused by COVID and last year's unprecedented weather event.

To be staged at Lake Breeze Wines in Langhorne Creek, Handpicked Festival will feature an array of established Australian music stars as well as a sprinkling of local, emerging talent.

Set to join the festivities will be ARIA Award winners and festival favourites Lime Cordiale, indie rock legends Ball Park Music, global folk traveller Ziggy Alberts, four-time ARIA Award winners The Temper Trap ('Sweet Disposition'), roots-folk OGs The Waifs ('London Still') and soul-gospel artist Budjerah (who collaborated with Ed Sheeran on '2step').

"Lime Cordiale are known for their infectious performances and generous interactions with fans. They will no doubt be ready to interact with the crowd, which is why we all love them so much. They really fit our vibe at Handpicked," event organiser Kate Cooper says.

"We love Ball Park Music," adds Kate, "having not seen them in our backyard since 2018, and knowing their live show has gone from strength to strength is exciting. We feel thrilled to have them back.

"We have been chasing Ziggy for a number of years now. To finally be able to host him in our backyard is dream.

"With more than one million albums sold, a number one album in their homeland and arena support tours with Coldplay and the Rolling stones, we are pretty stoked to have secured such an Australian success story [The Temper Trap] in our line-up.

"With 30 years in the industry, The Waifs are music royalty," continues Kate. "They bring a sense of professionalism through storytelling and laughter. They're also two sisters who formed the band, so naturally, my sister and I feel quite a connection already.

"What an incredible new talent Budjerah is. He is pushing boundaries vocally with his recent R&B and pop crossover on his new single. No doubt Budjerah is one to watch, so we cannot wait to welcome him to the Handpicked stage."

Home-grown talent will also take centre stage, with local artists aleksiah and Rob Edwards bringing their unique sounds to Handpicked Festival.

The family-run event is a complete sensory experience, showcasing Lake Breeze's award-winning wines, food trucks serving delicious local produce, captivating cocktail forest, and a diverse range of local arts, crafts, jewellery and homewares at The Lane.

After being forced to cancel last year's event at the last minute due to extreme weather, Kate says the outpouring of support from the community has been overwhelming.

"Handpickers have been beyond supportive. We were still receiving messages of support months after the event. To see the community backing us and taking the time to reach out made the world of difference."

Festival goers are urged to act quickly if they want to secure tickets to Handpicked, with 30 per cent of tickets already sold. "After last year's cancellation punters had the chance to hold onto their tickets for the 2023 event," Kate says.

"It was heartwarming to see that so many chose to keep their tickets, knowing the line-up would be completely different and new."
