With a new EP to be released in November, Melbourne guitarist and wordsmith Hamish Anderson shares his stories from life on the road in the US.
“The trip so far has been an absolute whirlwind with so many opportunities arising that I could never have even imagined. I flew into LA from my home town of Melbourne on 22nd August, and after my manager Kristin Juel picked me up, I got straight to work with rehearsals, organising the new band members and shaking the jet lag! After a couple days we jumped on a plane and headed up north to play several shows and radio interviews in Portland and Washington.
“After a couple awesome shows and a festival gig in Spokane we flew back down and got to work shooting the music video for my latest single, ‘Burn’. The video was shown at a huge house in the hills and I got to work with an amazing director and crew and drive this beautiful blue Mustang.
“What's been unreal about this trip is just the things that keep popping up. People have been so happy to help and throw me on the bill on shows, into studio sessions and most remarkably, on tour. When I heard the news that there was a possibility I could be playing a few dates with B.B. King, my mind was blown. Around this time last year I saw him play in NYC and thought that was a once-in-a-life-time experience in itself, let alone being asked to join him on not one but seven of his tour dates! Although the tour was cut short due to the great man's health (he's 89 it's pretty understandable!) I could not be more thankful for the two shows I did play with him, and it was an experience I'll never forget.
“The team and I just flew into NYC from Austin where I played Stubbs BBQ, and played my first show at CMJ at Santos Party House last night. I'm currently writing this in the hotel and about to head to soundcheck at Drom for the second night of my three shows here and then who knows what could happen from here!”
The ‘Restless’ EP is released on 7th November.
