Southern-Californian punk rock staples Guttermouth recently hit Australian shores for their last ever tour down under, and with an epic list of tour dates including “some of the shittiest venues in Australia”, they said farewell in true punk fashion.

Brisbane fans got their chance to watch the band of merry delinquents on Friday at the Tempo Hotel in Fortitude Valley, and it was definitely a show to remember. Tour supports for this show included local bands The Dirty F-Holes, Spike City (Blowhard), and Spitfire Liar; three great acts that tied the night together nicely.

Spike City were… still drunk from the night before. But they still rocked the stage in their matching Byron Bay shirts. Hard-hitting, ball busting punk rock. Spitfire Liar have a strong following in the local scene. These guys have a hardcore front, intertwined with the occasional melodic segue. Definitely a band to watch out for in your gig guides.

Guttermouth take the stage a little after 11:30pm, and by now the crowd are already pumped. They kick off and within minutes vocalist Mark Adkins’ shoe is torn off by a punter, only to have Adkins jump off the stage to retrieve it, ending with said punter’s face meeting Adkins’ fist (or possibly microphone) in the pit.

The next hour is an intense set of classic Guttermouth tracks including 'I’m Destroying The World', '1,2,3, Slam', 'Lipstick', and 'Bruce Lee Vs The Kiss Army'. Equally as entertaining as the music were the lengthy rants Adkins would lead into, directed mostly at the security guards unlucky enough to find themselves working the show. “There’s no need for violence against these kids, they’re not hurting anyone you fucking steroid addicted fucks!”

In fact, quite a large portion of the night was devoted to Adkins’ rants, and often in the middle of songs he would stop to 'rescue' kids from the grips of security guards, pulling them onto the stage and sending them stagediving into the moshpit.

At the end of a mammoth night of punk rock, Guttermouth fans were left beaten, bruised, and abused — after all, that’s what they came for.

“You guys are great, Brisbane,” Adkins beamed. “I’m sucking all your dicks now, and that’s a little gross.”
