Ground Level – A New, Monthly Club Night For Sydney

Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

A new monthly club night will hit Sydney from May 2023, called ‘Ground Level’, featuring some of the very best local and emerging talent alongside surprise international guests.

From Secret Sounds, the people behind the likes of Splendour In The Grass and Harvest Rock, the first instalment will star Western Sydney hip hop artist Isaac Puerile, Sydney electronic/reggaeton artist Cherry Chola, Newcastle hyperpop/rap collective Craterface, and Sydney Soundcloud rapper LILPIXIE.

LILPIXIE will kickstart the night, with their recent single release ‘A Midsummer Nightmare (Rendition)’. LILPIXIE is beginning to redefine the boundaries of rap through their heartfelt lyricism. It all began for the rapper as a coping mechanism to heal trauma, and it’s now making waves in the culture of Sydney underground.

Baby bruh and Taki Local are Craterface. They’ve recently released their single ‘Sloth’, and have two extended releases already under their belts: ‘Don’t Be Confused’ and ‘Burn After Listening’. They pull influence from the likes of Injury Reserve, Death Grips, BROCKHAMPTON, and JPEGMAFIA.

Sydney-based artist Cherry Chola brings a new wave of electronic pop/reggaeton music. Her music blends multiple genres to create a new sound reflecting inspiration from her Venezuelan background.

Closing out the first event is Western Sydney artist and producer Isaac Puerile. His sophomore EP ‘i hate you too’ meshes elements of rap, pop, UK garage and his own distinctly raw approach to music-making.

‘Ground Level’ will take place every month at The Lansdowne Hotel.

Its aim is to build a loyal group of emerging and local artists and fans, in a place where they can discover new talent, network with others in the industry, and connect with potential collaborators. Each month will feature an exciting mix of artists from various genres, including hip hop, rap, hyperpop, post-punk, and more.

In a night of great music, you might just discover the next big thing on the scene.

The first ‘Ground Level’ from Secret Sounds takes place at The Lansdowne Hotel (Sydney) on 18 May. Entry is free.
