Graveyard @ Crowbar Review

Graveyard
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Metal rockers Graveyard lit-up Crowbar on Friday night (6 March), with an hour-long set that showed the quintet’s musicianship and respect for an array of genres.

Here as part of the Golden Plains 2015 bill, the band have been here before, first coming to Aussie shores last year, as part of the Soundwave line-up. Long-haired, denim-clad punters were treated to a mix of the band’s biggest hits, mostly from classic album 'Hisingen Blues'.

Lead vocalist Joakim Nilsson growled his way through big hit 'Uncomfortably Numb', and we were treated to a new tune, so new it doesn't even have a name yet. Sonically, it was easy to see why Graveyard are widely considered Scandinavia’s answer to Black Sabbath.

The Nordic rock gods showed no signs of nerves with new bass player Truls Mörck taking over the spot vacated by Rikard Edlund recently. What’s still intact, was the authenticity and raw style the band is known for.

A product of the music cauldron that is Gothenburg, the band are much revered in their homeland, with a Grammy for Best Hard Rock album under their belt, and even their own brand of beer.

With the headline tour being sold out across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne, hopefully we can expect more shows in the near future.
