Gotye is using his international superstardom for good, teaming with Perfect Tripod to record a reinterpretation of an Australian classic and raise money for SLAM.
SLAM — of SLAM Day fame — is an organisation of music lovers and musicians who work together to ensure Australia's music scene is protected. This is SLAM's second in a series of limited edition 7” vinyl and digital releases.
Perfect Tripod, for those confused right now, is the fusion of comedic band Tripod and Eddie Perfect.
Together they've reinterpreted the 1981 classic 'Quasimodo's Dream' by The Reels, which was voted in at number ten on APRA's top Australian songs of all time. They're joined by visual artist Patricia Piccinini who collaborated with them on the vinyl release of the track.
Gotye (aka Wally De Backer) was approached by SLAM after he'd just seen Tripod's show at The Sydney Opera House. He was intrigued by Tripod's collaboration with Perfect on Acapella renditions of classic Australian songs.
SLAM's pledge project is also about to announce an evening with Gotye, where a group of people will have to chance to dine with him at his favourite Melbourne restaurant then catch a live gig. Wally's shout!
All the proceeds go to helping SLAM with their fighting fund and their goal is to raise $10,000 per state, per year purely to help cover operational costs and future sustainability.
