Gold Coast Music Awards 2022 Winners

The 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony was staged 3 September at HOTA.
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Country music artist Casey Barnes stole the show at the 2022 Gold Coast Music Awards (GCMA), the 'God Took His Time On You' singer winning the prestigious Artist Of The Year award as well as being inducted into the Awards' Hall Of Fame.

Staged on Saturday (3 September) at Home Of The Arts with a red carpet gala ceremony, Barnes built on his 18 GCMA nominations to win Artist Of The Year for the third straight year; while he's only the second artist to be inducted into the GCMA Hall Of Fame, after Amy Shark was inducted in 2019.

"Pretty decent birthday present," shared Casey on his socials. "Over the moon to win Artist Of The Year and also be inducted (alongside my mate Amy Shark) into the Hall Of Fame.

"Thanks for all the birthday messages today guys. It's been a bloody good day."

Adds Michael Chugg AM, Executive Chairman Chugg Entertainment: "Chugg Music are proud to congratulate Casey Barnes on receiving the award for Artist Of The Year and for achieving Hall Of Fame status from the GCMAs.

"It's been an amazing three years with Casey as he has risen into the ranks of Australia's premier country performers both here and in America.

"We would also like to congratulate the team at the GCMA for the incredible yearly event, which is doing so much for Queensland performers and the music industry."

Now in its eight year, other winners at the 2022 GCMAs included Wildheart (who received the most GCMA 2022 nominations with five) who scored the gong for Release Of The Year with 'Global Crisis'.

"Thank you to everyone involved in bringing this album to life and all of you for supporting this record," Wildhart posted to their socials.

Smooth funk indie rockers Buttered were awarded Breakout Artist Of The Year while emerging singer-songwriter and producer Sofia Isella scored the Musician Of The Year award (she's only 17).

"Thank you so much Gold Coast Music Awards. This blew my mind. My parents, Owen Orford, everyone who was a part of Sofia Isella & Friends, all the other nominees, the judges, the venues, every person who came to the Rainbow Rocket Ride tour, and Gold Coast – thank you," Sofia says.

"I'm honoured that you let me be a part of your beautiful community you created. My favourite people were in that room yesterday. Wish I could've been there."

Eliza And The Delusionals backed up an amazing 12 months (where they recorded and released their debut album 'Now And Then', toured nationally in August selling out all shows, while later this month they return to the US to support Silvers Pickups) to win Song Of The Year for 'Save Me'.

After supports with Tiny Little Houses, Holy Holy and These New South Whales as well as headlining Mountain Goat Valley Crawl and following Floodlights on their sold-out Queensland tour, family band Girl And Girl are the Gold Coast Music Prize winner.

"Ecstatic to have taken home the Gold Coast Music Prize at the GCMAs. Couple things I wanted to say on top of 'this makes us feel very good'.

"Firstly to Gold Coast Music Network for putting the whole thing together, I can't imagine the work going into an event like that; acknowledgment on that kind of scale for a little old band like us is so bloody heart warming, and we are so bloody incredibly grateful. Secondly to every punk that's supported us a long the way, we love you."

Teenager Lily Grace continues to turn industry heads, the Gold Coast native winning the People's Choice Award.

"Our 2022 Award winners and finalists are a true reflection of the depth and diversity of the creative talent that continues to grow and emerge from this City," Chloe Popa, co-founder of the Awards says.

"It was such a close call for the judges in many of the categories, it truly becomes more and more challenging each year to select finalists and winners.

"The winners announced today are all very deserving of the accolade and we're especially thrilled to announce that Casey will be inducted into the Gold Coast Music Hall Of Fame. We look forward to seeing his star continue to rise."
