Gold Coast Music Awards 2021 Finalists

More than 50 finalists across 9 categories have been named for the 2021 Gold Coast Music Awards, the Gold Coast's flagship music industry event celebrating the achievements of local musicians and bands.

Staged annually since 2015, GCMA alumni include Amy Shark, Busby Marou, Eliza and the Delusionals, Casey Barnes and Karl S. Williams.

Hip hop artist Jesswar has being nominated in six categories (including Artist Of The Year and Song Of The Year), while indie rockers Peach Fur have scored five noms (including Live Act Of The Year).

Last year's Artist Of The Year winner, Casey Barnes will defend that crown as well as being nominated in another three categories. "Chuffed to find out this morning I'm a finalist for four Gold Coast Music Awards this year!" beams Casey.



With three nominations each are roots singer-songwriter Karl S Williams, rockers Eliza and the Delusionals as well as first time nominees singer-songwriter Beckah Amani and art rockers Selve.

Those scoring two nominations are DOOLIE, Hussy Hicks, Tijuana Cartel, Harry J Hart, Saint Lane and These Four Walls.

"Omg! I'm a finalist for Breakout Artist and Release of the Year. WHAT tysm. Congrats to all the other finalists. Thank you for all of your love and support," DOOLIE says.

While These Four Walls posted: "Hey, here's some good news - we're finalists in two categories at the 2021 Gold Coast Music Awards. We're so stoked to be acknowledged, and want to again thank Luke Palmer and Matt Bartlem for their work on the album, and of course everyone who helped us fund it. Good job, team!"

Other first time nominees include indie-pop duo Geniie Boy and First Nations-fronted AYA J.



"For a year that saw the music industry gutted with uncertainty, reduced venue capacities and cancelled events, Gold Coast's musicians and our beloved venues have outdone themselves," Gold Coast Music Awards chairperson, Samantha Morris says.

"While we can only give away a small number of awards, we really want to acknowledge the immense achievements of all nominees.

"Each category was passionately debated by judges and for the first time, we even released the judging shortlist to acknowledge the quality of talent in the region.

"More and more Gold Coast artists are growing into national and international exports, including our alumni: Amy Shark, Hollow Coves, Eliza and the Delusionals, Jacob Lee and Wolfmother's Ian Peres. "It's exciting to have seen and supported their progression over the years and we can't wait to see what this year's crop achieves in the future."

2021 Gold Coast Music Awards ceremony takes place at Home of the Arts (Gold Coast) 4 September from midday to 3pm. The Awards will also be live streamed.
