Gillian Welch & David Rawlings Australia 2025 Tour

David Rawlings and Gillian Welch
Our eclectic team of writers from around Australia – and a couple beyond – with decades of combined experience and interest in all fields.

Americana, folk, bluegrass luminaries Gillian Welch and David Rawlings return to Australia in 2025.

Their first shows down under in nine years, the duo New York Times dubbed as 'American folk masters' will headline two concerts in Sydney, followed by a three-show set in Melbourne next January.

A songwriting tandem now stretching to nine studio albums: five released under Welch's name, three released under Rawlings' name, and two under both of their names, the pair's most recent studio project is 'Woodland'.

Released last month, the ten-song collection is the first original material from Welch since 2011's 'The Harrow & the Harvest', and the first from Rawlings since 2017's 'Poor David's Almanack'. 'Woodland' is the second album credited under Gillian Welch and David Rawlings, and the Grammy Award-winning duo's first album of original material together in 13 years.

The album is named after their Woodland Sound Studios in Nashville, Tennessee, which was destroyed by a tornado in 2020, with the artists further stating in a press release that the songs are 'a swirl of contradictions, emptiness, fullness, joy, grief, destruction, [and] permanence'.

Welch and Rawlings' 2020 album of covers and traditional songs, 'All The Good Times (Are Past & Gone)' won the 2021 Grammy Award for Best Folk Album.

Tickets on sale from 9am AEST on 12 September.
