‘Get Money!’ is the first single off Central Coast singer E^ST's third, self-titled EP.
The single has a more of an upbeat tempo and energetic vibe than her previous material. This was a conscious change of direction by E^ST. “The shows I was playing in the last six months didn’t have the energy and vibe I wanted. I started working on new stuff that had the vibe and energy I was after.”
While searching for this new sound and energy E^ST took a break from releasing music. This lead her to feeling nervous about the response her new music would receive. The positive responses have eased those nerves. “It’s very relieving and nerve-racking. I haven’t put anything out for a while so it’s good that the response has been positive.”
To assist creating the different style, E^ST featured Brisbane rapper Mallrat on the single. The decision to add Mallrat was one that E^ST describes as much needed. “I had written the song in the UK, it was done but I felt it was missing something. We reached out to young rappers and found Mallrat. We asked and she accepted. It was prefect, just what was missing."
As well as developing and working on her EP, E^ST has toured with a number of diverse artists including Twenty One Pilots and collaborated with French boys Club Cheval and Darius.
The Club Cheval and Darius collaborations came about as a suggestion from her label. “I was in Europe this year and we are signed to the same label, so they suggested we meet up and see what happens. The experience of collaborating with them was awesome. It was my first time in France. It was cool. We had to use a translator sometimes. It was fun. They are cool guys.”
Touring is something E^ST is passionate about. “Every tour and show is different. I’ve played in some beautiful venues and it’s great to see the crowds having fun!”
Although she enjoys every tour her standout moment was touring with Twenty One Pilots. “It was really awesome, I felt very lucky; it was a new experience. They are different from what I do and where I am at. I was honoured to support them. It was cool to have the chance to learn a lot from them and how they put on shows. They are very professional. It was awesome.”
The future for E^ST is exciting as she looks forward to making more music and an upcoming tour with friends. “It’s hard to say exactly what I'll do, I'll bring out the EP, tour with Japanese Wallpaper, who I am good friends with. So it’ll be nice to hit the road with them and then maybe there is an album in the works although I can't say much on that.”
‘Get Money!’ is out now.
