Acclaimed Australian songwriter-musician, Gareth Liddiard is celebrating the 13th anniversary of his debut solo album, 'Strange Tourist', with a run of solo shows.
The frontman for Tropical F... Storm and The Drones (not forgetting his Springtime collaboration with Jim White and Chris Abrahams), Liddiard will perform shows in Adelaide, Perth, Castlemaine, Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle, Torquay, Brisbane and Melbourne throughout November.Released in 2010 and recorded with Burke Reid, 'Strange Tourist' garnered ARIA Award and Australian Music Prize nominations for Liddiard – it will be re-released this Friday (25 August) on double gatefold vinyl featuring remastered audio by the master of mastering Aaron Cupples as well as new album art.
The run of solo gigs also arrives as Gareth has set up a GoFundMe page for his partner (and Tropical F... Storm band member) Fiona Kitschin, who is battling stage three breast cancer.
"As you guys know, late last year Fi was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer and has been getting treatment since January," shares Gareth.
"We were given an initial plan that took her treatment up to late October 2023; however, a few weeks ago, we received the news that she will now have to undertake treatment until the end of April 2024, which has completely f...ed us up financially.
"We have had to cancel 18 months of international touring for TFS and are doing what we can here in Australia around Fi's treatment to play shows, and I will be heading out on a solo tour this November.
"When we first announced Fi's diagnosis, we were inundated with offers of help, which we truly appreciate, but wanted to wait to take those up until we really needed it. And now we really need it.
"We have set up a GoFundMe that you can access if you feel inclined or can't make it to the solos shows. We really appreciate all of your love and support, Fi is staying strong and positive and she will see you all on the other side once we get her all fixed up. And I'll be seeing some of you in Australia in November."
