Australian indie rockers Gang Of Youths are back with new music in the form of the rollicking, blistering and massive-sounding single 'The Angel Of 8th Ave.'.
It's their first release of new music since releasing their 2017's album 'Go Farther In Lightness'.Now based in the UK, 'The Angel Of 8th Ave.' was entirely self-produced by Gang Of Youths and recorded at their own studio in Hackney. The track was then mixed by Grammy-winning Craig Silvey (Arcade Fire, The National).
"It's about falling in love, and finding a new life in a new city together," frontman Dave Le'aupepe says.
The song also marks the first time multi-skilled instrumentalist, Tom Hobden (ex-Noah and The Whale) has recorded with the band since joining as a live performance member pre-COVID.
While the band had planned a creative down-year prior to the world going into lockdown, the forced time away from touring allowed the group to reset their creative focus for an artistic overhaul.
"I think it's been challenging for us, this whole process, but it's probably going to be good for our music," bassist Max Dunn.
"We've gone in a less safe direction and it's going to be more in line with Dave's actual vision, rather than Dave pumping something out to get a deadline met."
Adds Jung Kim (guitar, keyboards): "We're exploring so many different territories and sides of ourselves and that's manifesting in the music.
"We're doing things that have never really made an appearance in Gang Of Youths."
